Pros

Strong, Smooth, and Silent

The C 970 Pro is powered by a commercial-grade 3.0 CHP motor, which can support any type of training schedule – be it light or heavy. It is also one of the highest quality motors you will find in this price range.

With built-in grounding brush, cooling fans, and top-notch insulation, the motor is built to last a lifetime.

The treadmill is surprisingly quiet, even at the highest speed. The dual cooling fans in the motor make sure there is no excessive noise or vibration when you train. The machine also has a 2.5” rear roller, which reduces friction to a great extent.

As a result, the NordicTrack C 970 Pro makes very little noise when compared to other machines in its class.

While excessive noise and vibration is not a factor that many people consider while choosing a treadmill, it is particularly important to you if you are someone who loves listening to songs or watching TV while training.

Adjustable Cushioning

The C 970 Pro features FlexSelect cushioning, which is a standard feature in all C-Series treadmills from NordicTrack. The innovative cushioning technology allows you to choose between two surfaces – a soft, fully cushioned surface which is safe on your joints or a hard surface that offers all the challenges of an outdoor running track.

Plenty of Workout Options

The treadmill has 32 built-in workout programs classified into four categories – incline, speed, calorie burning, and intensity.

The machine inclines up to 15%, which is quite steep and impressive for a treadmill in this price range.

The machine is iFit compatible, which offers you a whole new range of possibilities in terms of workout programs.

With an iFit account, you can customize your workouts to meet your fitness goals faster, track your progress, compare your progress with other members of the iFit community, and get instructions from America’s toughest fitness trainer – Jillian Michaels.

You can choose any place from Google Maps and the machine will adjust the incline automatically to mimic the running surface of your choice.

The machine also offers you the choice of heart rate training. Built-in sensors in the handlebars measure your heart rate accurately while you work out.

Alternatively, you can also use the Bluetooth based wireless chest strap, which comes with the machine, to measure your heart rate. It helps you stay in the right heart rate zone during training and get faster, better results.

Cons

It's Heavy

The machine is quite heavy. It can be folded up in a near-vertical position, so it does not take up much of floor space when not in use.

Still, it is difficult to move it around, even in a vertical position. So, it is a good idea to assign a permanent space for the machine and make sure it stays there.

No Tablet Holder

The C 970 Pro does not have an integrated tablet holder.

All the other machines in the C Series have an in-built bracket which allows you to attach your tablet and enjoy your favorite songs and shows or access your files during your workouts.

While this does not affect your workout performance, it is a bit odd that the feature is available in both the lower priced and the higher priced models, and not in this one.

No iFit Module

Unlike the C 990, the C 970 Pro does not come with an iFit module. You have to buy it separately, but it does come with one year free when you purchase the module.

Conclusion

NordicTrack C 970 Pro is sleekly designed, strong, durable, and offers you plenty of workout options. The price tag, however, tends to fluctuate quite a bit.

If you can get it for $1,000 or less, it is a very good bargain. If not, you can look for alternatives like the C 990, C 1650 or the X7i Incline Trainer, which offer you plenty of choices both in terms of workouts and entertainment for a slightly higher price tag.
