Star Trac has been selling commercial fitness equipment since 1974. With headquarters in Irvine, California, this brand is internationally known as one of the top competitors in this market.

An interesting fact is that Star Trac was the first to invent the treadmill that can exchange workout data with Palm OS handhelds. And the list of innovations they are known for doesn't stop here.

Although they have dedicated their business to building commercial products since the beginning, they understood that some users would rather choose their equipment for home use. As a result, they launched the residential line that includes strength products, treadmills, body trainers, bikes and spinner bikes.

Check out some great deals on these commercial grade treadmills here.

Residential treadmills can be bought directly online, from their own e-shop. The advantage is that you do not pay extra commissions to re-sellers, for a machine that is already expensive. You can also get some great deals at places like Amazon.

Let's take a look at the current Star Trac lineup...

Star Trac Treadmill Reviews - A Look at the Models

The current lineup consists of the 8-Series, the E-Series and the S-Series. All of the treadmills have a 500 lb. max weight capacity, strong motors up to 5HP, large cushioned deck and incline capability.

The 8 Series models include the 8TR and 8TRx. They have a user friendly console, wireless heart rate monitoring, SoftTrac triple cell cushioning and personal fans. The TRx model adds a touch screen display, one finger speed and incline controls, plus StarTrac Coach workouts.

The E-Series consists of the E-TRxi, E-TRxe, E-TRx and E-TRi. These treadmills are focused on entertainment (hence the name) with 15" integrated HD TVs, iPod connectivity, finger controls and SoftTrac cushioning. Some models have touch displays and StarTrac Coach.

(Note that the E Series may no longer be available.)

The S-Series stands for simple, but these are far from simple machines. You have the STRc and STRx treadmills here, and they have all of the main features of the other series, yet are a bit more affordable.

Are Star Trac treadmills worth buying?

We had the chance to test only one Star Trac treadmill, but it was enough to understand that they build high-end machines.

They offer workouts diversity and include all the tools needed to complete cardio exercises correctly. It does not matter how many users run on the machine. You should have no problem stressing it to the maximum for a long time...it will stand up to everything you have to give it.

When you test Star Trac products, you notice that they pay extreme attention to the quality of fans which, in crowded gyms, is extremely helpful. It is a feature that can be helpful in your home as well, if you do not have the treadmill in a ventilated environment.

Another advantage is that these machines need low maintenance, which makes life so much easier.

But, they do charge a lot for a residential treadmill and offer a meager warranty (only 3 years for parts and labor). The value is extremely low for a residential product that costs $7,000 or more.

If you are looking to purchase one, we recommend checking out the selection of Star Trac treadmills at Amazon, as you can find some much better deals.

Frequently asked questions

Is Star Trac still in business?

Yes. Star Trac is an active commercial fitness brand owned by Core Health & Fitness, which still sells current treadmills like the 4-Series and the 10TRx FreeRunner.

Are Star Trac treadmills good for home use?

They're built for gyms, so they're overkill (and pricey) for most homes. The lighter 4-Series is the most home-friendly option if you specifically want commercial-grade durability.

Why are Star Trac treadmills so expensive?

They're commercial machines built for constant, unsupervised use, with heavy frames, strong motors and cushioning systems — so the entry 4-Series starts near $3,800 and the flagship 10TRx can run from roughly $13,000 to over $18,000 depending on the console.

Where can I buy a Star Trac treadmill?

Through Core Health & Fitness and commercial-fitness dealers such as Total Body Experts, Fitness Factory, Gym Tech and Fitness Zone — not big-box consumer retailers.
