ProForm is a good brand. The XT 90 2010 model especially is dedicated to those interested in losing weight (a goal most people set up at the beginning of each year).

It comes with an interesting 20% incline feature with the purpose of allowing to lose weight at a faster and more efficient pace.

But, is it really worth spending $1,500 on this machine? Or this treadmill is in fact only a $900 model?

This feature is possible through ProShox Technology that comes with 24 intensity positions.

Workouts

The console features twenty preset workouts: seven walk workouts, seven jog workouts, and six run workouts. Each preset workout automatically controls the speed of the treadmill.

In the 24 preset workouts you got 2 Predefined Walk workouts for each 10% and 20% incline. You also have 1 predefined jog workout for 10% incline, 1 predefined run workout for 20% incline.

IFit Compatible

The console features an iFit training mode that allows your treadmill to communicate with your wireless network through an iFit Live module. The iFit Live module must be purchased outside this package price. You also must take care of the wireless network required. Click here to read the iFIT LIVE module review.

Audio System – Compatible with Mp3 and iPod

You can plug in your MP3, CD player or iPod in the console. The treadmill has also a sound system incorporated and you can control the volume through 2 arrow buttons located on the console.

Safety Key

We decided to incorporate this feature as part of the treadmill features after discovering the importance of using a safety key if needed.

Before you start any workout, insert the key into the console. The following message will highlight: “In an emergency situation, the key can be pulled from the console, causing the walking belt to slow to a stop. Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward; if the key is not pulled from the console, adjust the position of the clip.”

Remember to remove the key when you finish a workout.

Conclusions

This is a heavy, non-folding treadmill. If you’re looking to buy it, remember you can call an authorized service technician to assemble the treadmill. So better do that rather than doing tests on your own. Still, if you desire to test your technical strengths, note this treadmill requires 2 persons to be assembled.

Due to its large size and weight, you also require 2 people to move the treadmill around.

Now to share with you our opinion about how it feels once you complete all the assembly process.

During our tests we felt a little discomfort when we had to change the 2 options of the incline manually. Having a 20% incline is really impressive, but to complete a workout all the way (warm-up at the beginning and at the end) you must do this in 3 steps. At every step you have to stop the treadmill change incline and start again.

There are no cardio options which is also a little disappointing. If we could choose, we would prefer to have a Chest Strap and Cardio workouts on a treadmill rather than entertainment features (like iPod dock and speakers). It’s more practical and useful.

It’s true, the console comes with 20 preset workouts and it’s iFit compatible! But during an intensive workout for weight loss your heart rate is very important! We are sure the ProForm team knows this too.

The advantage of this treadmill is the controllable firmness system. You can easily control how firm the running surface is depending on your weight and workout intensity. You can choose between 24 firmness levels. Even so, on this treadmill you can only run at maximum speed of 10mph and the motor is a 2.0 HP version (not that strong).

Based on our experience, we consider this machine appropriate for those who want to lose weight and maintain it (and prefer workout at a slower but more intensive pace). If you decide to buy this treadmill, be sure you have also a tool to measure your heart rate, at least for once is a while.

If you made up your mind, our recommendation is to stand by and wait until another sale is on. A $900 price is much for suitable for the features and functions this machine has to offer.
