The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 Treadmill Review

Weslo Cadence R 5.2 Treadmill

Overview

The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 is quite similar to its more popular counterpart, the G 5.9, except it is missing the heart rate monitoring capability and has a slightly lower max weight capacity. Other than that, it’s pretty much identical.

With its extremely low price tag (around $300), it has become quite popular for those looking for a decent entry level machine for light walking and jogging.

Our Weslo Cadence R 5.2 Review

Weslo is the entry level brand of ICON Health & Fitness, the world’s largest exercise equipment manufacturer. They also make the popular NordicTrack and ProForm treadmills, which start at around $599 and work their way up from there.

The most attractive feature of the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 is definitely it’s price tag, which is about as low as it gets for a motorized treadmill. Last we checked it was a little more than $300 on Amazon, which is where most of the company’s exercise equipment is sold.

Besides the nice low price tag, you get a decent 2.5 CHP motor which is sufficient for walking and maybe some jogging, but probably not running.

You get a 16″ x 50″ belt, which is a little narrow, but it’s fine if you’re just walking. Overall the machine is very compact compared to some of the other treadmills on the market today, so it’s great if your space is limited.

There is Comfort Cell cushioning to reduce the impact on your joints, and you can choose from 2 different incline levels to change up your routine. You also get 6 built in workouts which are varied and effective.

As we mentioned, you don’t have heart rate monitoring as you do on the more popular Cadence G 5.9 model, but it is not entirely accurate anyway so it’s not a deal breaker.

The max weight capacity for the Weslo Cadence R 5.2 is 250 lbs, 25 lbs. lighter than the max weight on the G 5.9 model…again not a deal breaker.

There’s a large LCD display showing you all of your workout stats such as time, distance, calories and speed, so you can keep track of your progress.

As with many of the Weslo treadmills, the warranty is definitely subpar. You get 90 days parts and labor, which is not ideal, so you’ll want to opt for the extended warranty if you do decide to buy the R 5.2.

So what’s the bottom line here?

The Weslo Cadence R 5.2 is a good choice for those looking for a very basic machine that will help you burn calories and lose weight. It’s built for walking and perhaps some jogging, so if you are a runner you’ll be better served with a more advanced machine.

With its low price, built in workouts, sufficient cushioning and space saving design, it’s not a bad option as far as entry level machines go. Just get yourself the extended warranty for peace of mind.
