Which Treadmill Companies Are Out Of Business?
With so much changing in the fitness industry it’s hard to keep track of all of the different brands, who owns what and whether or not a company still exists. As such one of the questions that we get asked a lot is “Is XYZ out of business?” It usually stems from a call into customer service that goes unanswered, or a website that suddenly disappears, or replacement parts being unavailable. Something that leads a customer to believe that something is not quite right.
And so we introduce a new section of our website, one that will be updated with new information as it becomes available to us.
Here is the most updated list of treadmill companies that have recently gone out of business. They may be resurrected at some point, but for now they are no longer in business.
LiveStrong – once a popular brand of ellipticals and treadmills backed by Lance Armstrong, the parent company, Johnson Health & Fitness is no longer putting the name on new machines, preferring to focus on their other brands: AFG, Vision, Horizon and Matrix.
Pacemaster – Aerobics Inc., the company behind this high-end brand of treadmills and other exercise equipment filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and moved all operations to Canada. You can still find some older models for sale on sites like eBay.
Epic Fitness – once a high-end brand under the huge ICON Fitness umbrella, Epic’s website was recently taken down and the Epic name was taken off the ICON site. We’re looking further into this to confirm.
Smooth Fitness – Smooth went out of business briefly but has returned and is now under the ICON Health & Fitness umbrella along with NordicTrack, ProForm, FreeMotion, Weslo, Health Rider and Reebok.
Trimline sold a line of treadmills in the mid to high price range, and the machines were decent. However, they had a lot of issues over the years, changing ownership several times and eventually being acquired by Nautilus. Unfortunately, the brand just didn’t last and Trimline went out of business.
Yowza Fitness – this company had a very popular line of treadmills and ellipticals, but it looks like they may have gone out of business. The Yowza website is showing an old sale and the toll free phone number is not working. Also, emails to the company were not returned. They may just be out of business. Stay tuned…we’ll try to get more information for you.
We’ll keep adding to this list so check back often. If you hear of any treadmill company going under or are curious whether or not a company is still operating, send us an email and let us know about it.
