NordicTrack Reflex 4500 PRO is a 2010 model, but it’s based on the features of Apex 4500 Treadmill, with a few technical improvements.

Another treadmill to which Reflex 4500 PRO resembles a lot is the NordicTrack Commercial 1500. The only differences are that Reflex 4500 weighs less, is easier to fold and has the belt backed by a Reflex Cushion system.

Reflex 4500 PRO is a $2.000 treadmill. From our point of view for the price you pay this must be a good treadmill and it should resist to minimum 2 hours of daily intensive running.

But how does it work for real? See in our conclusions.

Features

Touch Screen Display:

Click on the Display button to select a display mode. Press it until you get to the display mode you want. Among the details you see displayed are:

– Incline
– Speed
– Distance to be done
– Elapsed time
– Pace in minutes/miles or minutes/km
– Calories (approximate number only)
– Heart Rate
– Competitors animation (Competition Workouts)
– Map of the course (Competition Workouts)
– The rate or energy recovery for competitors and the amount of energy they have left (Competition Workouts)
– Racing tactics your opponents use (Competition Workouts)

Heart Rate Readings:

through Contact Handles
Keep your hands on the handles for minimum 15 seconds for the console to display the reading as accurately as possible.

Workouts:

– 1 Manual Workout
– 14 Preset Performance workouts
– 6 Preset Weight Loss workouts.
– 6 preset distance workouts (1 mile, 5k, 5 mile, 10k, 10 mile, half marathon)
– Competition workouts
– iFit LIVE Module workouts (this is an optional module, not included in the original price)

When you select a preset work out, you see the name, duration, maximum speed, maximum incline and a profile of the speed settings of the workout. You choose the intensity of the pre-set workout.

All pre-set workouts adjust speed and incline automatically. You can change speed and incline, but this will apply only for that segment of the workout, not for the entire exercise.

Plus, you don’t have an individual user system available on this treadmill so the calories you burn are not calculated based on your own weight. This is why the calorie readings should not be considered valid numbers to build your diet on.

Competition workouts allow you to race against 1 or 4 opponents by selecting the speed and incline you desire. Opponents have different endurance level, some are easy to defeat but some require a few weeks of daily practice.

IFit LIVE Module Compatible, NOT included

The Treadmill has included 26 pre-set workouts, but the iFIT module is much more interesting because it can enable Google Trails workouts which are pretty awesome.

Information Mode:

Allows you to:

– See total miles/km walked/ran on the belt
– See total time
– Change display to be in miles or km
– Change contrast level of the display
– See the status of the WiFi connection you need to use the iFIT LIVE module (if you decide to buy and connect it)

Sound System:

compatible with MP3, iPod, CD player and any other similar equipment.

Fan:

included

Folding Treadmill:

You must be able to lift 20kg (45lbs) to fold the treadmill alone. The treadmill folds by using the latch knob available on the frame. To move the treadmill around you can use its wheels.

Conclusions

Honestly, we weren’t that impressed by Reflex 4500 PRO, at least not for the money it costs ($2.000). The Reflex Cushion they market as a technology hit for this treadmill is good, but not for race running. Same as on the APEX 4500 (which had the same technology) you can use Reflex 4500 PRO to walk and jog easily. It feels great for the joints to exercise with minimum pressure. But when you run it’s like sometimes the ground slips under you. You need a firmer cushion for this type of exercise.

Still, it’s easy to fold, much easier than other treadmills with this feature. This is good because if you can lift 20 kg you can fold this treadmill by yourself. It takes less space to store which is important if you have little space to spare in your home. Plus, you can move by yourself in need.

But, on the other hand, the belt on Reflex 4500 PRO is the short version. You get only a 55’’ long belt. We usually prefer minimum 60’’ as we are tall.

For this money, we would like to have the iFIT LIVE module included. This is because having this module would worth the investment. When you see in their specs the iFIT LIVE, is just to mention that you can pay extra and buy it. Look at our iFIT review to understand better this optional module’s features.

The iFIT workouts included in the preset workouts work too. They are challenging and can motivate you to keep up with your training. Still, don’t expect to allow you to prepare for a marathon, because they won’t.

On the other hand, the Weight Loss workouts don’t provide reliable info. This is because the number of calories the console displays during workout is calculated by a general formula, not based on your actual weight and age, as it should be.

As a last conclusion we can recommend this treadmill only for basic training.
