The TC20 is the latest model of the newest Bowflex lineup (launched in 2011). It is the upgraded version of TC5 and TC10, worthy of the entire highlight it’s been receiving ever since the launch.

Indeed, it is a sturdy and dynamic machine that provides efficiency, multi-functionality, a serious pack of user-friendly features and a nice design. But you have to be completely sure this machine is what you want, otherwise what’s the point in wasting perfectly good $3300?

TC20 Features

Display Info

The fully backlit LCD display offers feedback on:
- Time (in minutes and seconds);
- Distance (in miles/ MI or km)
- Calories (counts total calories used)
- Speed (in miles/ MPH or km/ KPH

The console also contains a G.O. Coach weekly progress display. This feature shows the progress of a G.O. Coach user towards his/ her weekly goal (based on distance, calories or time goals). Up to 2 users can use this feature.

Heart Rate Readings (includes a Wireless Chest Strap)

Being able to work out without using the handles is pretty cool. Also, the heart rate reading system doesn’t compromise on quick and accurate results, which is even cooler.

The Lower display contains 4 windows, of which the two windows in the center cover the incline and speed information.

The console can offer feedback on average heart rate, average speed, calories, calories per hour, calories per minute, distance, finish time, goal, heart rate, incline and decline, METs, pace, % complete, personal best record, segment time, profile, speed, time, time elapsed, time in heart rate zone and time remaining.

You can personalize your workouts by creating a user profile. And another great thing is that you can insert age, weight and gender information so that your profile is complete.

Heart Rate Readings

You can either use the chest strap or the touch-sensitive handrail grips. After ending your workout, the treadmill offers a heart rate analysis.

Workouts

There are 23 programs available with the Precor 9.35, of which 1 mile, 10K, 2 mile, 5K, 2 Custom programs, Fitness test, 2 Goal programs, 5 Heart rate programs, 4 Interval programs, Manual, Random, Track, Walk and Weight Loss.

To get to the program list, press one of the Programs keys. Make your choice and press OK. Enter time, distance or goal and then age, weight and gender values. Use speed arrow keys to increase and decrease the speed of the running belt. Select your user profile prior to starting the workout.

Before exercising, you can set display preferences. Choose between U.S. or Metric units and enable or disable the safety code. It’s recommended to include a cool-down segment after workout. When the cool-down segments ends, the belt stops and you get the workout summary.

After you start working out, a flashing column will indicate your position as you exercise. Go to Options to make your safety code settings and to choose your unit of measurement. For the SmartRate feature, you must specify your age and also you must be wearing the chest strap or grasping the handrails.

Choose the unlimited time setting for indefinite exercises. Every time you end a calorie goal, time or distance workout, a cool-down session will begin.

Keep in mind that you can only make time settings for Custom programs. You can’t set distances or calorie goals. Also, you must include on your own a cool-down session, since they don’t incorporate it by default.

You can choose another program in the middle of the present session by going to Programs and choosing a new program, except when your present workout is a Fitness Test or a Heart Rate program.

Remember that Precor 9.35 allows you to record your personal best time, change workout time, adjust program goals and change your workout display options. You can also change units of measurement, adjust your target heart rate, change safety code protection, set your pace and use the pacer feature with your personal best record.

Conclusions

The Precor 9.35 is a treadmill that will last for a long time. It’s a sturdy and powerful machine, with convenient and user-friendly multi-features. It will instantly grow on you, but only if you can get passed the terrible appearance. To be straight, its exterior design is awful, but the things it does offset all the ugliness.

So what’s the fuss all about? For starters, the powerful motor will allow you to engage in continuous workouts. And speaking of workouts, the console integrates 23 programs, designed for specific goals. One of the highlights of this console is the -2% decline that imitates downhill training. And a secondary notable feature is the heart rate system that offers accurate readouts when you’re engaged in Target Heart Rate workouts.

An innovative technology patented by Precor 9.35 is the Integrated Footplant Technology that basically adjusts the speed of the belt to your natural speed. This feature has turned out to be quite useful to us. Having a treadmill that adjusts its motor as you exercise is user friendly and it makes workouts so much easier and fun.

In addition, the deck adjusts to your height and weight, which delivers impact-free results. It’s nice to have a treadmill that basically adjusts to your own characteristics and keeps you injury-free all the way.

It’s true that you can’t fold this machine for space saving and you don’t have any entertainment incorporated in the 9.35 console. Still, you can’t really expect to fold a machine this powerful.

Also, the exterior design is rather ugly. Don’t count on that to make you get on the treadmill in the morning. But you’ll get high-quality components, workout diversity, impact-free training, a pack of interesting features and accurate feedback. And a warranty that insures safe usage and a machine built to last.

There’s also a minus with this treadmill. The price is not that appealing. Spending $5,000 on a treadmill will make you break your piggy-bank. The price is a drawback that may make you reconsider your choice. You may want to check the Landice L870 Home ProSports treadmill for a lower price and similar characteristics to the Precor 9.35.

All in all, this is a high-quality treadmill for avid runners who are looking to achieve high goals. Additional details can be found at their official page

Display Info

The console includes one large Display LCD and 2 smaller windows for speed and incline.

There are 7 display modes possible in total.

Heart Rate Readings
Either use the handgrip contacts or the wireless chest strap. But the Polar Chest Strap is compatible (Not Included).

Workouts
This console offers 14 personal trainer workouts and 12 interactive trainer workouts. The last 12 are meant to be customized and include 3 heart rate workouts and 3 fitness test workouts.

All in all the console includes the workouts such as Manual, Pulse, Random, Interval, Fit Test, Walk/ Run (5K/ 10K), Custom and All-Terrain.

The program selection of the T5.8 includes 12 interactive trainer workouts that enable the possibility to customize workouts. The interactive trainer workouts include 3 heart rate workouts and there are also 3 Fitness test workouts to measure the VO2 max (in translation, your fitness level).

For a personal trainer workout, go to Interval Workouts, Terrain Workouts or Random Workouts until you reach the workout you want. Press Enter and insert age, weight and duration. Press Enter after each selection. Press Start to begin and monitor your progress with the displays. Measure heart rate and cool down with the fan.

For a Walk/ Run workout, press Walk/ Run workouts until you reach the one you want. Follow instructions and don’t forget to monitor your progress and your heart rate.

You can opt for a fitness test workout, after you put on the chest strap. Select the workout and begin exercising by pressing Start.

For a heart rate workout, also wear the chest strap. Select the desired workout by pressing Heart Rate Control repeatedly. Press Start and off you go.

For a Custom workout, press Custom Workouts repeatedly until you get to the one you want. Select age and weight and press Enter after each selection. The display will give you name, maximum incline, maximum speed and duration. Follow instructions to make your selections.

The console also offers an iFit slot where you can insert the iFit card. It’s great to have this option for more workout diversity. Follow instructions to make your selections and press Enter after each one. Start your workout and monitor progress.

Fan: Included

Sound System

There’s a high quality sound system that you can use during workout, to play whichever music you want on whichever player you have. You can also insert your iPod and also your headphones, if you want to.

iFit Cards: Optional

The treadmill has an iFIT card slot included, but cards must be purchased separately. Our recommendation is to go for this option only if you consider mandatory. The console already gives you the tools to create or use a diverse workout system.

If interested you can read more about this option in iFIT Workouts article.

Conclusions

The Freemotion T5.8 is a powerful machine, built for both average runners and walkers and avid athletes looking for real provocations. But it’s too expensive for the features it offers and the alternatives on the market are much more challenging.

The manufacturer price is $3500. But at special stores, like Amazon you buy it for $2700.

Still, in this price range, we definitely prefer Life Fitness Life Fitness T3 Treadmill – for $2500 with Basic Workout Console. Or you can buy the advanced Workout console for $2800.

About FreeMotion T5.8.

The motor is sturdy and can keep up with intense workouts.

Light joggers and walkers will be also satisfied with the motor.

The belt is advantageous for taller or heavier users.

The cushioning system will ensure the safety and comfort of your workouts, keeping you injury-free. Actually this is why FreeMotion T5.8 costs so much. The Reflex Cushion is built to absorb much more stride impact, but without reducing the strength so runners can train longer time without feeling joint or knee pain. It’s was a new experience but very pleasant.

Another detail is that this treadmill comes with the chest strap included. We used it for fitness tests and heart rate workouts and it was helpful.

A nice advantage is that you can insert your own age and weight values. This is a very important feature. It helps you receive proper, personalized feedback, rather than standard feedback as many treadmills do. But you don’t have to pay this money to have these controls.

The warranty pack reflects well in the budget invested. Lifetime warranty for frame and deck breakage, 20 years motor, 7 years parts and 2 years for labor is a decent offer.

The treadmill doesn’t fold. This may be a problem with those lacking storage space.

To sum our conclusion, we had a nice experience (which we would have valued at $1500-$2000). We didn’t meet any problems with the machine or it’s components.

Still from our point of view the price is too high for what it offers. In the end the decision remains yours. For additional info check the official page.
