FreeMotion Treadmill T5.8 Features

Display Info

The display is multi-screen, 160 x 50. This console offers 6 display modes with the following information:

    * Elapsed time
* Walked/ run distance
* Speed
* Incline
* Approximate number of burned calories and burned calories/ hour
* Intensity in METs
* Walking/ running pace

As a plus, the console keeps track of total walked/ run distance and approximate number of burned calories.

Heart Rate Monitor:Wireless Chest Strap Included

Use the handrails to measure your heart rate. Grasp the contacts and hold them for about 10 seconds, or more for a plus of accuracy. You can also use the included Polar wireless strap. Just make sure you don’t use them simultaneously.

Workouts

The program selection of the T5.8 includes 12 interactive trainer workouts that enable the possibility to customize workouts. The interactive trainer workouts include 3 heart rate workouts and there are also 3 Fitness test workouts to measure the VO2 max (in translation, your fitness level).

For a personal trainer workout, go to Interval Workouts, Terrain Workouts or Random Workouts until you reach the workout you want. Press Enter and insert age, weight and duration. Press Enter after each selection. Press Start to begin and monitor your progress with the displays. Measure heart rate and cool down with the fan.

For a Walk/ Run workout, press Walk/ Run workouts until you reach the one you want. Follow instructions and don’t forget to monitor your progress and your heart rate.

You can opt for a fitness test workout, after you put on the chest strap. Select the workout and begin exercising by pressing Start.

For a heart rate workout, also wear the chest strap. Select the desired workout by pressing Heart Rate Control repeatedly. Press Start and off you go.

For a Custom workout, press Custom Workouts repeatedly until you get to the one you want. Select age and weight and press Enter after each selection. The display will give you name, maximum incline, maximum speed and duration. Follow instructions to make your selections.

The console also offers an iFit slot where you can insert the iFit card. It’s great to have this option for more workout diversity. Follow instructions to make your selections and press Enter after each one. Start your workout and monitor progress.

Fan: Included

Sound System

There’s a high quality sound system that you can use during workout, to play whichever music you want on whichever player you have. You can also insert your iPod and also your headphones, if you want to.

iFit Cards: Optional

The treadmill has an iFIT card slot included, but cards must be purchased separately. Our recommendation is to go for this option only if you consider mandatory. The console already gives you the tools to create or use a diverse workout system.

If interested you can read more about this option in iFIT Workouts article.

It’s true that T5.6 model gathers workouts diversity and entertainment so that home treadmills users satisfy all their needs and expectations.

FreeMotion T5.6 Features

Display Mode

There are 4 distinct displays built to follow your workout. There’s the matrix that displays a ¼ mile/ 400 meters track. The flashing segment is your current segment.

The Time/ Incline display shows the elapsed time and incline. The Calorie/ Pulse display shows the approximate number of burned calories and the heart rate when hand grips are being used. The Distance/ Speed display shows the walked/ run distance and the speed of the belt.

You can opt to use the incorporated TV display if you feel like being entertained. To use it, you have to connect an antenna or a CATV cable and then follow instructions.

Heart Rate Monitor: Hand Grips and Optional a Chest Strap

Use the handgrips or the optional chest pulse sensor to read your heart rate. If you opt for the handgrips, stand on the foot rails and hold the metal contacts for about 15 seconds for accuracy.

If you want to use the chest strap, you can purchase it separately. This is a great option for heart rate programs, since it leaves you hands-free and encourages you to keep your workouts balanced.

Workouts

The console gathers 36 preset workouts that control speed and incline, or you can create your own workouts.

Starting a preset workout is not difficult. First, press one of the available options: Weight Loss, Aerobic, Performance, Endurance, Hills, Plateaus or Mountains. After selection, the display will give you workout number and maximum speed setting. You can change the intensity by pressing Intensity Level increase and decrease. Start the belt and follow your progress with the displays.

And when you’re looking for some diversity, you can always create your own workout. Press one of the Custom buttons repeatedly. Make your selection and start the belt. Set the incline and speed of your choice. Also monitor your performance and provide yourself comfort with the fan.

iFit workouts are also available, but these are bought separately from the treadmill’s price.

Fan- Included

Folding options- Included

TV Included

This console was designed to keep your workouts long and comfortable. You have your own television that may provide the motivation needed to keep up with your workout routine.

To use it, connect the CATV cable, turn on the TV and scan available channels. Adjust the volume and turn it off when you’re done.

You can set-up your own settings by going to Menu. Adjust image and audio settings and after making all the selections, save your channels.

The remote control is easy to use while you run.

Sound System:iPOD compatible

This console gives you the chance to enjoy your favorite music through the console’s speakers. We like that the iPOD can be connected also.

iFit SD Cards- Optional

Once you bought the iFIT cards just insert the it in the designated slot and select the workout by pressing Increase/ Decrease. Make your selection and change speed and incline whenever you feel your current values are too high or too low.

To read more about the iFIT Cards options read also the article iFIT Workouts.

Information Mode

This Information Mode keeps track of total distance that the belt has been in use and total number of hours that the treadmill has been used. You can select miles or kilometers to view distance.

Conclusions

FreeMotion T5.6 is a good home treadmill made of good components.

This is not the best treadmill deal you can get for this money. There are other options in this price range that may have more to offer. But even if a little overpriced, it’s definitely a good buy.

From our point of view the $3000 price is not justified, even if the console includes a TV option.

This model was designed for those users who need the pumping music or the movie of the day to stay on the belt longer. Of course, these features have nothing to do with the efficiency of the treadmill, its motor power or workouts settings. But they are included and work very well.

Another plus is that T5.6 is an appropriate model not only for those who seek entertainment, but also for those who are in need of consistent workouts, both efficient and diverse. There are 36 workouts to choose from. Our experience confirmed that diversity keeps you longer on the treadmill.

And when you’re bored with the preset programs, you can always customize your own exercises, although you can only insert speed and incline: no age, no weight, no gender. This is something we don’t understand. Why charge $3000 on an incomplete treadmill from workouts point of view.

You can always buy the extra iFit cards if the preset selection is still not enough. But honestly, it should be enough and you don’t need to pay the extra money unless you need a trainer’s voice to accompany you during exercise.

It’s true the incline can only be set up to 12%. For those looking for a tough challenge, this may be an inconvenient, since there are treadmills offering up to 15% incline. But there are other advantages that are relevant and make this machine quite interesting.

The belt is generous, which for us is important and also one of the first things we pay attention to when analyzing a new treadmill. The motor is also powerful and makes your workouts intense and long.

Users may weigh up to 300 lbs/ 136 kg and in addition, this treadmill is foldable. Having a treadmill that saves space when it is not used, is kind of a big deal.

If your home is not very spacious and more importantly, if the room you install your treadmill in is as large as a bedroom, you need to fold your machine. This treadmill does that.

But unfortunately is very heavy. You may have difficulties in folding and moving the treadmill around. So this is not that much of a plus unless you are comfortable with this limitation.

Also, when workouts become intense and you feel you can’t run anymore, you can turn on the fan and instantly cool down. This is so important during tough workouts. This treadmill, same as T5.2 has a good fan system.

Heart rate monitoring is easy to manage. We recommend using the wireless chest strap all the time. Is more accurate.

To sum this review, for $3000 standard price the FreeMotion T5.6 is a little too much, even if the warranty is good. Unless you get a good deal, such as $2500.

You can buy the exact model without the TV console – Freemotion T5.2 at $1800.

This treadmill incorporates double heart rate reading system: the Lifepulse system and the Polar telemetry.

To use the Lifepulse system, grasp the stainless steel sensors on the handlebars. Hold them for 20-30 seconds. We recommend you to use this system for speeds below 4.5mph or 7.2 kph.

If you plan to run faster or go through the Heart Rate workouts use the Polar chest strap which leaves your hands free. Use it on bare skin.

The readings are much better than on the cheaper models we’ve tested. And they complete the workouts inserted in the console perfectly.

LifeFitness Platinum Series Engage Console Features

Display Info:

The Engage Console comes with Touchscreen Display (the latest technology in the field).

The main display’s controls are: workout selection, virtual trainer set-up, workout set-up and languages selection.

As feedback during workout you can see incline, time run or to be run, time of day, speed, distance, calories burned, heart rate. These are only some of the details listed. Workout feedback includes very detailed information which is useful to track progress accurately and correct mistakes easier.

Every LifeFitness model has also the Activity Zone with quick options for adjusting incline and speed during workout. It includes also a Quick Start button, Walk/ Jog/ Run preset buttons and a Stop button.

Heart Rate Readings: HandleBars and Wireless Chest Strap

These are the same options as detailed in the Achieve LED Review or the Inspire 7’’ Review.

Workouts:

This console comes with 36 workout programs, 6 goal workouts, 2 Create Your Own workouts and 10 custom workouts. They are split into 3 categories: Classic workouts, Heart Rate Workouts or Special Workouts:

Quick Start is the fastest way to begin exercising. You then select your workout you first set your goals: time, distance, calories, pace, distance climbed, time in zone. You can also select the intensity of your workout. There are 20 intensity levels options available and each level has a different incline value set.

We love the Marathon Mode because it allows us to train for the first marathon we plan to complete this fall. We have been preparing for the first marathon for 6 months, but this treadmill (and the others versions in this series) improved our results a lot.

The console will ask you to insert your personal details for accurate data calculations such as: weight (for calories burned), age (for targeted heart rate workouts), and gender (for accurate fitness testing).

Last but not least, note that this console alerts you on different stages of your workout with the Audio features. They are disabled when TV or FM are turned on. It’s cool to have this feature as it keeps you permanently aware of your performance.

Virtual Trainer:

With this option you can select a male or female trainer to assist during workout setup and provide audible feedback during a workout.

You can also go online, meet with your trainer virtually, create custom workouts and track results. It’s a great feature and it’s free.

You can create and save workouts to USB then transfer them into the treadmills console. The USB port is available on Inspire 7’’ model and the Engage 15’’model only.

TV Screen and Radio Options

The console has the TV screen incorporated. This option is controlled from the Touch Screen options. If you have CATV cable connected you can watch the desired TV channel. Plus you manipulate TV options as you please.

FM Controls allow you to surf through different Radio Stations and also configure channels. You listen to radio or TV and browse through the other workouts settings at the same time.

iPod Compatibility: Included

The console includes iPod compatibility. But it’s different than on other consoles. Once you insert the iPOD dock, the iPOD is controlled from the console through the Touch Screen Options.

Conclusions

We are in love with this treadmill. It has everything you have dreamed about to have on a treadmill. It’s both useful (for ANYONE) and fun.

To have EVERYTHING on a treadmill it costs you $8,000. This is a huge amount. But if you can afford it, buy it.

As Health Club Gym, you must pay attention how you allow people to use it. You need to train them first because the TouchScreen display must be correctly controlled.

The most important thing is that the warranty is great. In fact it’s the best you can have for this type of equipment.

The treadmill can be used in any field that requires you to have a high fitness level: running, military, professional contests, mountaineering. You name it and this treadmill can take it.

To sum it up, this is purchase to go for without hesitation if you can afford it.

You can also choose any of the other models in this Series, even if they come with more simpler controls.

See also the Platinum Club Series Treadmill with Inspire 7″ Console Review and the Platinum Club Series Treadmill with Achieve LED Console Review.

Main Display guides you through your exercises and offers the necessary information in order to keep track of your activity. Feedback includes details about incline value, pace details, distance run or vertical feet climbed, calories burned and power output in watts, speed and pulse.

Workout TV Console – Optional

The WorkoutTV console is quite a kicker. It has entertainment features that can make workouts much more interesting.

To use this Console you need a CATV cable, a TV box, a DVR or a DVD player connected.

This console displays the matrix of the basic console on-screen. To view the matrix and also the programs, press TV AND MATRIX button.

freemotion treadmill basic with tv

You can adjust the volume as you wish and you can access Heart Rate training zones chart.

Heart Rate Readings: through HandleBars and Chest Strap

Stand on the foot rails and hold the metal contacts. Keep your hands still to receive accurate results. Your pulse will begin to flash and then results are displayed. To avoid problems with the heart rate readings, keep your palms on the upper contacts and your fingers on the lower ones.

This treadmill also gives you the chance to monitor your heart rate with the Polar telemetry wireless system. It’s great to have double readings of your heart rate, it makes workout much easier.

Workouts:

There are Quick Touch buttons for programs on the console. This consoles exercises selection includes:

- Manual program which allows you to enter age, weight and program goals.

For the preset exercises the console automatically change and control settings based on your personal details that must be inserted by you before starting the exercise: age, weight, gender.

Most workouts need you to have the Wireless Chest Strap attached because the workout is based on your targeted heart rate (estimated by the console based on the personal information inserted).

The calculations apply for healthy people. If you know you have any heart problem, visit your physician first.

This model has a different console, with less features, but the frame quality and specifications are the same.

Platinum Club Series Achieve LED Console Features

Display Info:

The Achieve LED Console is basic. Some of the valuable info displayed and that we appreciate is: time remaining or elapsed time, time of day, distance climbed and heart rate.

There are other details listed too like incline, calories, Watts and METs.

Inspire 7 and Engage 15 consoles are much more complex, more advanced and more featured. Of course they also have a higher price.

Heart Rate Monitoring: Wireless Chest Strap and Contact Handles

The Platinum Club Series uses the same two heart rate monitoring systems patented by Life Fitness: the Polar wireless telemetry and Lifepulse digital contact.

To use the Lifepulse readings just grasp the handlebars for 20-30 seconds. During workout use the wireless Polar chest strap that leaves your hands free.

It is recommended that you use it on bare skin for more precise results.

The Achieve LED console comes with 6 pre-programmed workouts:

The FreeMotion T7.4 Model is part of the Light Commercial Series. This translates as a machine that can be used as home equipment or as gym equipment. We recommended mostly for gyms.

In this Series prices are high because products are addressed to gym owners.

FreeMotion T7.4 costs reach $4,000. You have to look at this product as a long term investment. Its features should be considered only if they can bring the buyer good Return of Investment.

See our Conclusions for more details.

Technical Dimensions:

Length: 82″ (208 cm)
Height: 63″ (160 cm)

Home Warranty: lifetime for frame and deck breakage, 20 years for motor, 10 years for parts and 2 years for labor

This applies when the treadmill is bought as home gym.

FreeMotion T7.4 Light Treadmill Features

Display Info

You have 6 display options to monitor your activity:

- Elapsed time
- Distance walked/run
- Speed
- Incline
- Approximate number of total calories burned or calories burned per hour
- Intensity in METs (1 MET is the amount of energy you use when resting)
- Walking/running pace in min per mile or per km
- Heart Rate

Heart Rate Readings: Chest Strap and HandleBars

The treadmill offers double readings, but the important thing is not to use both systems simultaneously.

With option 1 you wrap the Chest Pulse Sensor around your chest and you have your hands free during workout. You can adjust the length of the chest sensor and make sure the logo faces forward and is right-side-up.

Or you can choose the second option, the hand grip sensors. The disadvantage is that when you use this feature you must stand on the foot rails and hold contacts for almost 15 seconds for accurate readings. This is very difficult to do during exercise.

Workouts:

You can choose between 14 personal trainer workouts and 12 interactive trainer workouts that can be customized. There are also 3 heart rate workouts and 3 fitness tests to measure your fitness level.

We especially enjoyed the 3 fitness tests workouts:

1. Ebbeling Fitness Test measures VO2 max or aerobic capacity. Its duration is 9 minutes
2. Gerkin Fitness Test measures VO2 max
3. FreeMotion Fitness Test measures your fitness level on a scale of 1 to 10

iFIT Workouts: Optional

The console also incorporates an iFit slot to be used with iFIT Cards Workouts. iFIT cards are bought separately from the treadmill cost. We did a review on this feature which we strongly recommend you read before making a decision. See the iFIT Workouts article.

The advantage is that you can insert your age and weight in the workout profile when you select this option. This ensures workout feedback is displayed according to the number of calories your body burns during exercise.

Fan: Included

TV Screen:

This treadmill includes a television screen in the console.

If you have an antenna connected, you can scan the available channels and save them just as you do with your TV set.

If you want to use a VCR or DVD player, connect them to the console through the available input.

A remote Control is offered for easy access to channels and settings.

Sound System: Included

The console has audio jacks compatible with MP3, CD player or iPOD.

Folding Feature: NOT Included

Conclusions

The T7.4 is a treadmill that we recommend. Its high-quality components and workouts selection comply with your need to get in shape and stay fit.

As we mentioned at the beginning this machine is also built for gyms. It is a good selection for gyms also, especially with its entertainment features that attract more customers.

The treadmill is strong, powerful and offers stability. The motor may not be the strongest, but it’s enough. The console is easy to use and has all controls at hand.

The workouts selection is various and effective. If you buy the iFIT SD cards the treadmill can be a real hit.

Then the T7.4 has double heart rate readings. You can either use the chest pulse sensor or the handgrip sensor, of which the chest pulse sensor is more attractive, since it leaves you free-handed during workouts. You have to know that on treadmills you can rarely find an accurate heart reading system. This technology is still imperfect.

And for $4,000, you also have entertainment. You have your own TV that you can set however you want and choose whichever channel you want (as long as you have cable).

Plus the console incorporates a sound system. Both add some fun during workout.

But there are two details you should take into account. First, the speakers are fragile. Ours gave in after a short while. And second, entertainment is great, but only if you really need it. Especially if you’re low on cash, you should go for a cheaper model with a similar offer of workouts, if you feel you can give up the entertainment sources.

And remember this is not a foldable treadmill either.

To conclude FreeMotion is a notable treadmill producer. They’ve earned our trust and we pass it on. The comfortable and spacious deck allows you to run in full comfort and safety. The Quick Incline and Quick Speed buttons allow you to quickly adjust speed and incline with one touch of a button, which is a very good option to have during workout. To sum it up, if you have already set your eyes on this model go for it.

Workouts

The T7-0 has 18 workouts included. 15 workouts are the same as Life Fitness T5-5, plus 3 new exercises:

- Sports Training-Distance-Based Goal

- 3 Mile Jog (Daily Workout)

- Weight Loss (Daily Workout).

Read the Life Fitness T5-5 Treadmill Review to see the list of the other 15 workouts this treadmill console includes.

As we already mentioned before all these workouts are designed to be used by Beginners, Athletes and Experienced Runners. The User Manual includes complete details about how they should be used.

User Menu:

As the T5-0 and the T5-5, the T7-0 has a Main User Menu with the following main options: My Tread Users, Tread Statistics, Tread Settings and Software Versions.

My Treadmill feature is common for T5-5 and T7-0. It allows 4 users to create personal treadmill software profiles that match the body type, quick speed preferences, quick incline preferences and a few others. Having a My Tread Profile helps you access it quickly through My Treadmill.

My Workouts is also a common feature for these three Life Fitness models. It allows you to set up personal information for a particular workout and save it with a customized name. The T7-0 allows you to save up to 7 My Workouts.

The Custom Workouts Feature lets you design your own workout. The T7-0 has 3 custom intervals (you can change speed and incline or heart rate target in time intervals) and 4 custom records (you can adjust a workout while exercising and then save changes).
