Display Info
The console offers several display modes. While working out on this treadmill, you’ll get feedback on incline, elapsed time, time left, approximate no of calories you have burned, approx no of calories/ hour, distance, no of climbed vertical feet, speed, a 1/4 mile track, pace in min/ mile, current lap number, heart rate.

To pause the workout, touch one of the Menu buttons. The Racetrack display makes it easier to monitor speed, pace and distance.

Heart Rate Info:
Either use the two built-in handlebar grips or the included Polar Wireless Chest Pulse. We recommend the wireless system for better results.

Workouts:
The new 2150 comes with eight calorie workouts, eight in¬tensity workouts, eight speed workouts, eight incline workouts and six iFit Live demo workouts. Additionally, the iFit Live compatibility will enhance your workout experience.

To start an onboard workout, press Calorie, Intensity, Speed or Incline. Select the desired workout and the screen will give you name, duration, distance and also approx no of calories you’ll be burning during the program. Touch the Start Workout button and monitor your progress. You can cool off at any time with the cooling fan.

To use a Set-a-Goal workout, touch the Set-a-Goal button on the screen or use the Set-a-Goal button on the console. Set the time, distance, calorie or pace goal by touching the marked buttons.

In order to use the iFit Live workout, you must have access to a wireless network and you must also have an iFit Live account. Login and start downloading iFit Live workouts in your schedule by touching Map, Train, Video or Lose Weight.

Equipment Settings Mode:
This mode allows users to select a language and the unit of measurement, turn on and off the display demo mode and to enable/ disable the key.

Maintenance Mode
This mode allows users to update the console firmware, calibrate the incline of the treadmill, calibrate the screen, view technical information and view a button’s keycode.

Conclusions

The Commercial 2150 is one of the first releases of 2012 and it is prone to become a best buy. This treadmill offers components that you would otherwise find on commercial units, plus a series of innovations that make workouts interactive, motivational. For some, spending $1800 may be an unaffordable luxury, and I can definitely see why. But I suggest thinking about the Total cost of Ownership for a cheaper, but unadvisable treadmill. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? OK, now let’s see what’s with the Nordictrack Commercial 2150 treadmill.

Pros

Well, first of all, it’s everything, from the largest motor anyone will ever find in a residential treadmill all the way to the warranty that evidences the durability of this treadmill.

Not only the motor is powerful, but also surprisingly quiet, at highest speeds. Taller users should not worry, as the running surface is large enough to sustain longer strides.

Although it’s no longer a reason to turn your head around, the 2150 has iFit compatibility, which means creating personalized workouts, downloading them on your treadmill, audio coaching, progress tracking, defining running routes on Google Maps or better said, running the world at large. Sounds good and feels great. We’re not much of the entertainment type of runners, but iFit is much more than plain amusement.

When hitting the workouts button, you’ll see a wide selection of programs that any beginner or professional runner will find enticing, be it for losing the extra weight or staying in shape.

For those who enjoy their favorite tune while running throughout the South of France, they can simply plug in their iPod or MP3 and just hit the road. The speakers are high quality too.

Don’t worry about safety, as this machine is backed up with serious cushioning that will never let any user down. The warranty is a living proof of the long and comfortable usage.

Main Attraction

Where should I start? First off, avid runners may find the available decline levels quite appealing. Downhill running stimulates different groups of muscles. Moreover, you can fully enjoy the Google Maps experience, both uphill and downhill.

The Android Browser is once again a notable feature. You can do on your treadmill whatever you need to do on your computer. Plus, you won’t need any more gadget to entirely enjoy the iFit experience.

And as a cherry on top, you also receive the wireless chest strap, included in the price.

When you’re done, just fold the treadmill and hide it in a corner. It is an easy process.

Drawbacks

Some might say that the price is a drawback, and it is, for those who don’t need the Android browser and the 10″ touchscreen. If so, other treadmills may sound more appealing.

As an overall conclusion, the Commercial 2150 from Nordictrack is a good opportunity to get interactivity, safety, power, functionality, diversity and innovation all in 1. It all goes down to $1800. The T 8.0 is part of NordicTrack’s new range for 2011. It’s received positive reviews for functionality, sturdiness, workouts diversity and user-friendly console. Still, it’s somewhat more expensive than it deserves. Nevertheless, the T 8.0 is an attractive machine, able to keep you running till the end, while maintaining yourself free from any injury.

T 8.0 Treadmill Features

Display Info

The LED displays keep track of speed, time, distance, pulse, incline and calories burned. The center display shows workout instructions, incline and speed of the walking belt.

There is also a ¼ mile matrix available in the Manual mode.

1-touch speed and incline buttons make adjustments easy.

Heart Rate Readings: handlebars sensors and wireless chest strap.

You can choose out of two options, the handlebar built-in sensors and the polar wireless chest heart rate monitor (recommended).

Workouts

The T.8 comes with 18 onboard workouts of which 5 calorie, 5 intensity, 4 speed and 4 incline workouts.

To start an onboard workout, press Calorie, Intensity, Speed or Incline button. When you select the workout, the displays give you max incline, duration, distance, maximum speed and name of the workout. Start the workout. During the program, check your progress with the displays. Measure your heart rate and turn on the fan.

If you are a fan of iFit, you’ll be happy to know that T.8 also features iFit Live Workouts compatibility, but the module must be purchased separately. To use iFIT once purchased, insert iFit Live Module into the console. Select a user and then an iFit Live workout by pressing one of the iFit Live buttons. Start the workout and follow your performance as above.

The Information Mode

This mode keeps track of treadmill information and allows users to personalize console’s settings. Hold down Stop while inserting the key into the console and then release Stop. You’ll be shown time, distance, unit of measurement.

Conclusions

NordicTrack did a nice job with the T 8.0. The console has user-friendly features that maintain workouts easy and consistent. We acknowledge that NordicTrack put some hard work into this machine, still, not enough to justify the price. Even so, we recommend this treadmill and here is why.

Pros

We all agree that the motor is the key of the treadmill. The T 8.0 has just the motor you need, given the large running surface. Ready to back you up at any time, this powerful motor is surely worthy of a first glimpse. Then, there is the running surface. It’s large and can really entice you to maintain your workouts consistent, which means taller individuals can benefit from this machine flawlessly.

Cushioning system is also a concern when it comes to choosing your future treadmill. Luckily, T 8.0 made our workout days fairly happy. We are quite avid when it comes to workouts, which means we also need strong cushion and T 8.0 offers it. When we’re done with high intensity workouts, we feel just great. No sore, no pain, only a well played game.

When I hear “1-touch”options, I hear “freedom” to maintain your workouts fluent, without worrying about incline and speed alterations, while still making all alterations you want.

Speakers are iPod compatible, which means a lot to many of us. Guilty as charged, I enjoy listening to my fav tunes, especially when the going gets damn tough and I reach high intensities. Motivation is not dismissible and music helps. A lot.

Another thing that helps me running is the cooling fan. It works miracles. Just a thin breeze and suddenly you can go on and on, running till the end. To make it all even more appealing, the T 8.0 is guaranteed for life, and you won’t have to worry about the parts for 3 years. Pretty good, right?

Main attraction

iFit is catchy, and for a good reason. It totally expands your workouts range and encourages you to challenge yourself. T.8 is a killer treadmill in this department.

Also an eye-catcher is the wireless chest strap that comes in terribly handy during fat-burning workouts. It keeps you in your right zone and also offers more accurate results than the incorporated handlebar sensors.

Drawbacks

But nothing is ever perfect. The thing with T 8.0 is that it’s too expensive, compared to other NordicTrack models with more complex consoles and more workouts. Sure, LED displays are easy to read, but still, the console is too simple, features are few.

All in all, for the strong motor, large running surface, quality cushioning, easy-to-use incline and speed buttons and iFit options, we do recommend the T 8.0. But only on sale. If not, for $ 1400, you may want to check out other models like NordicTrack Commercial 1750.

The C 1250 is a new NordicTrack treadmill for 2011. It offers quality, functionality, diversity, intensity and keeps you safe throughout the toughest workouts. It features the rising star of technology, the internet browser with Android. And it works great.

But the bad news is that it’s way too expensive, at least with NordicTrack Elite 9500 on the market. Check out more about the C 1250 and see whether it suits your needs or not.

Display info
The 10 inch full-color touch screen with built-in browser powered by Android keeps track of incline, elapsed time, approximate no of burned calories, walked/ run distance, speed, a ¼ mile track, pace, current lap no, remaining time, approx no of burned cal/ hour, no of vertical feet, heart rate. The displays at the top of the screen can show 2 types of information.

Additionally, the Android technology allows you to get online while you work out. Also, you can watch your progress with Google Maps on specific races and courses.

Use the handlebar built-in sensors to monitor your heart rate.

Workouts
This unit features 26 on-board workouts, of which 6 calorie workouts, 7 intensity workouts, 6 speed workouts and 7 incline workouts.
To use an on-board workout, touch the Workouts button on the screen. Then, touch Calorie Burn, High Intensity, Speed Training or the Incline Workouts button. If you want to view the previous screen, touch Back. Then, select the workout. The screen will give you name, duration and distance of the workout.

You will also be displayed the approximate no of calories you’ll be burning during the workout and also a profile of the incline settings of the workout. Touch Start and begin the workout. Touch Display increase and decrease buttons repeatedly to view feedback. Measure your heart rate and turn on the fan, if wanted.

You also have the iFit Live Workout option. Insert the key into the console, log in to iFit.com, select the main menu and then select the workout by touching Workouts on the screen. To switch users, touch the user button near the lower right corner of the screen. Before you download any workouts, you must add the workouts to your schedule on iFit.com. Touch Start Download to download the next workout in your schedule.

The Internet Browser is easy to use. To open it, touch the globe button near the lower left corner of the screen. Then, select a website. Navigate by using Back, Menu and Home buttons on the console. You can also make your own browser settings by dragging your finger up or down the screen to scroll through the settings.

Settings mode
It allows you to connect the treadmill to your own wireless network and to log in to your iFit Live account. Insert the key into the console, select Main Menu and then touch the i button near the lower right corner of the screen to select the settings mode.

Maintenance mode
It allows you to calibrate the incline and speed of the treadmill, update the console firmware, calibrate the screen, view technical information and perform a network test. To activate it, touch the Maintenance button in the lower right corner of the screen.

Conclusions

With C 1250, NordicTrack proves once again they deserve all the recognition they get. It is a quality treadmill, widely featured, with advanced cushioning and the tip of the iceberg, an internet browser powered by Android. But is it really worth the $ 3000?

Pros
C 1250 is built to support taller and heavier users that will find the lengthy running surface and the powerful motor quite attractive. Any company that respects itself will add advanced cushioning to an oversized motor, so you see, you will be able to work out intensely while remaining injury-free. Any unit that can do that is worth looking at.

There’s nothing more tedious than pressing buttons during hard workouts. This is our belief. If you agree, than you’ll find the 1-Touch feature quite interesting. Any display or console changes you want to perform during workout, simply touch the proper button. It makes workouts so easy and it’s definitely worth the extra cash.

The cool thing about the fan is that it speeds up as you speed up, you only have to activate the auto mode. This feature is great to cool off your core when you reach the intensity peak.

If you’re the entertainment kind, you should know that speakers rate well as far as quality goes.

Also, if you’re the iFit kind, you’ll be happy to know that this console features Google Maps, which means you can run throughout the world at any time. We love Google Maps, it’s really exciting running throughout the Grand Canyon whenever we feel like it.

Main attraction
As you know by now, this unit features an internet browser powered by Android. It’s not the novelty technology that really got us excited, but the fact that we can joggle workouts with distractions. We don’t do it often, but sometimes we like reading our emails while shedding the extra pounds. Sure, entertainment and intense workouts don’t really go together. But as long as you stay devoted to your goal, Android is a cool feature.
And of course, let’s not forget about the Google Maps feature that iFit Live Workouts offers.

Drawbacks
As far as functionality goes, we can’t argue. We’ve only been pleasantly surprised by this machine. It works amazingly well, looks nice and folding is easy. Sure, it’s a heavy unit, so don’t be a superhero.

But the main drawback is that it costs way too much. Yes, it’s a machine worthy of the extra dollars, but still, it’s a price too high. Especially since NordicTrack itself made the Elite 9500, which is about $ 1000 less and, last but not least, has decline options.

Nordictrack C 900 makes it easy for users to access workout information.

It’s really easy to monitor your progress.

To reach the display you want, press Increase/Decrease. The My Tail tab shows a track representing ¼ mile/ 400 meters. This number also offers the number of completed laps.

The intensity level bar indicates the approximate intensity level of your current exercise.

Stand on the foot rails and hold the pulse bar with palms on the metal contacts. It takes 10 seconds to get the results, and 15 more for more accurate feedback.

Workouts

There are 20 workout apps you can choose from: 5 high intensity, 5 speed, 5 incline and 5 calorie burn workouts.

To use an onboard workout, press Calorie, Intensity, Speed or Incline buttons until you reach the desired workout. After selection, the display offers duration and name of the workout.

When engaging in a calorie workout, the approximate number of calories you’re about to burn will be shown in the name of the workout. Press Start or Speed increase to start the workout.

Press Speed or Incline to adjust these settings while you’re exercising.

Use the available displays to follow your progress. Measure your heart rate and turn on the fan if you feel like it.

Nordictrack C 900 is compatible with the latest iFIT Workouts.

You must purchase the wireless module separately, but this comes with a one 1 year free subscription.

Then, all you need to do is set-up the wireless connection on your own, and then activate your account at ifit.com

Conclusions

The Nordictrack C 900 is a treadmill that we warmly recommend. It incorporates functionality, diversity, a user friendly interface, power and aesthetics, all for $1,000. This is a good deal.

What are its advantages? First of all, the motor is perfect for running. Not only it keeps you safe, but it also keeps the treadmill going for 1 hour, without problems.

Secondly, the deck is above average, which makes it easy for taller and heavier users to exercise efficiently. Users up to 300 lbs can buy this model for walking and light jogging.

After you run for 30 minutes, you hardly feel any pain in the calves area or the joints. We believe this is a result of the cushioning system.

The user friendly display enables easy to read feedback. There are several displays you can use to follow your performance.

We also like the workouts variety. Lately Nordictrack offers minimum 20 preset workouts in their treadmills’ consoles. And they are pretty good. Plus, speed and incline are easy to adjust during workouts.

On top of that, if you’re looking for something new you can use the iFIT Workouts. Those are really fun (especially the Google Maps workouts).

Even if it’s a large treadmill, when you’re not exercising you can easily fold and store it somewhere it won’t bother you.

For those who need entertainment, the stereo system with iPod compatibility does the trick. You can also use it to be assisted by the iFIT trainers’ voice or you can listen to music.

Last but not least, the warranty package is highly attractive, for a model this diverse and for a price as low as $1,000.

This is not the best model you can buy and we don’t recommend it if you plan to use it more than 1 hour daily, but it’s a really good deal which you should consider if you are on a low budget.

The NordicTrack Commercial 1500 treadmill was launched on the market in the improved version at the end of 2010.

We had the chance to test the previous model one year ago, so it was easy to compare it to the 2011 version. We admit that there are a few improvements which are hard to overlook: better warranty and the decline option.

Display Info

The treadmill has a 8 backlit display. The advantage is that you have more information on the console at the same time.

The treadmill registers the following workout information:
- The elapsed time
- The distance that you have walked or run
- The approximate number of calories burned
- The number of vertical feet you have climbed
- Speed of the belt
- Heart rate

The display also offers details about the workout progress and intensity:
- The matrix
- The workout intensity bar
- The incline level of the treadmill

Heart Rate Readings: wireless chest strap and hand rails sensors
We strongly recommend using the wireless chest strap when working out. It reads the heart rate more accurately.

Workouts

The treadmill has 24 pre-set workouts and it’s compatible with iFIT LIVE Module workouts (these are purchased separately, see more below).

The preset workouts are:

- 6 calorie workouts
- 6 intensity workouts
- 6 speed workouts
- 6 incline workouts

This improved model has a different way of warning you when the workouts segment changes. You hear different tones if the speed or incline will change in the next segment.

iFIT LIVE MODULE – optional

If you decide to buy the iFIT wireless Module, it’s a good option. The console gives you access to the latest iFIT workouts designed by the iFIT team. You have the buttons right on the console.

You simply need to purchase the module, activate your subscription, install the wireless connection and login with your account. See more details in the iFIT workouts article.

Information Mode

Hold the Stop button while you insert the key in the console, then release the button. Now you are in the Information Mode set-up.

From this setting you have access to the following information:

- the total number of hours the treadmill has been used
- the total number of km or miles run by the belt
- the status of the demo mode (and you can enable or disable it)
- the unit of measurement (and you can change it from Metric to English and vice-versa)
- the status of the WiFi Module

If you buy the iFIT Live subscription, from this menu you control the wireless connection set-up and the communication to your iFIT account.

Conclusions

Our experience with the NordicTrack Commercial 1500, the 2011 model was quite interesting. We liked its strengths and this is why we warmly recommend it to all those who want a home training machine.

It has also some disadvantages (even for its price) but if you don’t mind its minuses, then you will be a happy user.

We will begin with the pros. We really like the warranty. Adding 2 years for labor, it’s a plus. And 5 years for parts, it’s really good.

Another detail we like, is the belt. Although the previous version had adjustable cushion, this version is even better. Plus, the pre-lubricated belt it’s a big bonus.

An important details is the decline mode (-3 is the maximum decline). This feature has a great impact over your body. See Muscles Developed when Running on the Treadmill for more details.

We can’t overlook the pre-set workouts. The 24 workouts options cover the most important options any regular runner needs.

But if you want a personalized workout, you need to buy the iFIT module and the activate your iFIT subscription. It’s not a big cost, but it’s extra money nevertheless. Even so, it’s worth the money.

There are also disadvantages you need to consider. The machine is heavy and it’s hard to store in an apartment. Its dimensions make it hard to place in a small room, even if it’s not too noisy.

When you buy it, consider this is a heavy treadmill. Moving and assemble it may be hard. So if you don’t have who to help you, consider paying the extra money to the delivery company.

Another disadvantage is that the number of calories calculated are inaccurate. There are treadmills that allow you to insert your personal information and calculate calories burned based on your target heart rate zone (which is the right way), but this model doesn’t.

But, as we said above this is definitely a better version of the old NordicTrack Commercial 1500 model which is worth the money. You can also check the nordictrack page if you want additional details.

Workouts

The Commercial 1750 offers an array of 30 preset workouts of which 20 calorie-burn workouts and 10 all-terrain trails workouts. Every program controls speed and incline automatically.

To use a Set-a-Goal workout, press the Workouts and Set-a-Goal buttons. You have to set time, distance and the calorie goal by pressing Time, Distance and Calories buttons.

When pressing Increase and Decrease, you set the time, distance, calorie goal, speed and incline. Press Start to begin working out.

When you want to go to a calorie burn workout or an all-terrain trails workout, press Workouts and then the Calorie Burn or the All-Terrain Trails buttons. For the Calorie burn workouts, first choose the difficulty level and then the desired workout. For an All-Terrain Workout, select also the desired difficulty level and then the workout of your choice.

There is a Goal Workout Center you can customize with you personal time, calorie and distance goals.

If you want to engage in an iFit workout, first you have to connect your treadmill to your wireless network. Then, select the start menu and hit the Workouts button. Next, press Live workouts. This treadmill comes with the NEW iFIT LIVE Module which you can use based on a monthly subscription (12 months are included).

To switch users, press Switch user button.

Stereo Sound System with iPod Compatibility
You can plug in any audio player, including your iPod. The 1750 incorporates a high quality sound system.

Settings Mode

The Settings mode allows you to connect to your own wireless network, this way enabling connectivity to your iFit Live account. To reach the Settings mode, go to start menu and press the ‘i’ button in the lower right corner.

Maintenance Mode
The Maintenance mode allows you to handle technical issues, such as speed and incline calibration, factory defaults, console updates and technical information. To reach the Maintenance mode, press the Maintenance button in the lower right corner of the screen.

The Commercial 1750 only supports top down Google Maps view. Still great but if you want the Street View then you need to spend more and get the Elite 9500 Pro.

Conclusions

NordicTrack has succeeded in building a long-lasting brand notoriety, and it figures. From our point of view this model sustains the good reputation of this brand. BUT only if you pay $1,500 on it (not $3,000 as marketed on the NordicTrack website).

For starters, the motor is ranked among the best that NordicTrack has on stock. It can sustain prolonged, heavy training and it works quietly. Then, there is the running surface, which is above average. Runners and joggers will make most use of this treadmill, no matter what height you have. A plus is the maximum 15% incline that is a little higher than most treadmills have to offer (12%).

The full-color display is a detail that immediately got our attention. Mostly because it is large enough to make feedback easy to read during hard training. Another great thing about the display is that next to the ordinary information, you get additional feedback such as a ¼ mile track, time to complete 1 lap at current speed, current lap number, remaining time, approximate number of calories burned/ hour, number of vertical feet and pace in minutes/ mile. For us it’s been great to access all these details at the same time. It has made our workouts more effective. And the colors are really cool during iFit workouts.

And talking about iFit, this is what the buzz is all about. All you have to do is make sure you can connect the treadmill to a wireless network. Basically, it gives you the opportunity to run or walk on any running trail from all over the world. The treadmill simulates terrain workouts by changing the incline during every workout automatically. It’s really fun to try.

iFit workouts are also customizable . Plus you have access to useful information about your fitness activity and nutrition. It took as 20 minutes to set up our iFit account and we’ve made much use of it.

Don’t worry about safety. The cushioning system absorbs up to 33% of the shock, so you won’t have to worry about the injuries on heels, knees and hips while engaging in one of the 30 preset workouts. Nevertheless this is not a reason to skip warm up and cool down.

Don’t forget about the Goal Custom Workout Center where you are free to set up time, calorie goal and distance so that you create your own workout.

And when the going gets tough, just plug in your MP3 player or iPod or any other player and hit the deck while enjoying the clear sound offered by the speakers.

Plus we like the folding options.

OK, the advantages are crystal clear. Still, there are several aspects you may want to consider. First, wireless connection is imperative, or else the iFit mode will be of no use to you.

Then, keep in mind that you can’t insert your own weight or age values, so you only receive an estimate of the calories you burn. And thirdly, the Commercial 1750 is a fit to be used by around 3 people.

The warranty package is convenient. 5 years for parts is a good deal.

Display Info:

The 7 inch color touch-screen display is very easy to control. You have different display modes available, but you can switch between them really fast. To select the mode you want, press repeatedly Display increase/ decrease buttons on the screen.

The console gives information about: elapsed time, distance, incline, speed, a ¼ mile track, time to complete one lap at current speed, lap number, time remaining, approximate no of calories burned/ hour, number of vertical feet you’ve climbed, pace in min/ mile and heart rate.

Adjust volume by pressing Volume increase/ decrease on the console. There is a small wireless icon in the upper right corner that shows the wireless connection status.

Heart Rate Readings

You can monitor your heart rate by grasping the handgrip sensors.

Workouts:

The Reflex 8500 Pro models comes with 30 preset workouts, of which 20 calorie burn workouts, and 10 all-terrain trails workouts.

To use a set-a-goal workout press Workouts button, then the Goal Workouts button.

Press Time, Distance and Calorie buttons to set time, distance and calorie goal. Then set the incline and speed. Now you’re ready to start working out.

When you reach the goal set, the walking belt will slow until it stops completely. This is when you receive the workout summary details on the screen.

To go to a calorie burn workout or an all-terrain trails workout, select a calorie-burn workout or an all-terrain trails workout by pressing Workouts and then Calorie Burn or All-terrain Trails buttons.

For Calorie burn workouts, select the difficulty level and then the desired workout. The screen will give you approximate no of calories you’ll be burning, duration and distance. Do the same for All-Terrain Trails workouts. Change speed and incline as you want during workout.

For more workout diversity, there is an iFit Live mode. iFit allows you to download personalized workouts, create your own workouts, track your results and also stay in contact with other features you may find useful. You need a wireless network to access the iFit Live mode and a monthly subscription.

Conclusions

The NordicTrack Reflex 8500 Pro is a treadmill that we warmly recommend. It is a strong machine, with a wide package of user-friendly features and nice aesthetics. It has its drawbacks, but the advantages offset them by far.

Starting with the motor, this treadmill is on a top position. It has a sturdy commercial-grade motor, designed for superior performance. Not only is it notable for its power, but it is also known for its quietness. Basically, you’ll get a strong machine and the quietness that few powerful motors can provide.

We also appreciate the reflex cushioning system. It does a great job, even after a 10 k run.

The impressive thing is that the deck is built so that it conforms to your personal features and movement. It gives you stability and keeps you safe from injuries (even if it doesn’t look so when you see it in the pictures ).

The performance workouts are great and you can choose out of 20 programs. They have definitely made us go for more and push our limits. And when you want more diversity, the iFit Live feature will bring its share of innovations. Even if it involves a monthly subscription, this is one piece of software that always determines us to keep using Icon Fitness products.

The cool display includes even a Google map that basically displays your workout progress. It also includes the 1 Touch speed and incline control system. With the single touch of a button, you can alter speed and incline as pleased.

And as a plus, you get to fold it and use the space even when you’re not working out.

The minus with this treadmill is that you don’t get to insert your own weight and age, so that you get a more accurate feedback. The weight loss programs will definitely make you shed the extra pounds, but you won’t receive precise feedback. If you complete the workouts with the iFIT mode, you can dis-consider this minus. Otherwise, we recommend buying a treadmill that has it all (such a the LiveStrong treadmills for example)

Also, the warranty is a bit faulty. You have lifetime warranty for frame and motor, but only 2 years for parts and 1 year for labor. It’s never enough for a $2000 investment.

At this moment the NordicTrack Reflex 8500 Pro is not the best buy at Nordictrack, but it has notable highlights that make this model a very good purchase. For additional details you can check the Nordictrack page

NordicTrack Commercial ZS is a product of Icon Health and Fitness. This model comes with an improved design, but otherwise it resembles a lot with NordicTrack Commercial 1500.

Commercial ZS is a 2009 model. But we found it available at a good price in 2010. Its reputation is not that good, still we had a nice experience.

Display Info

This treadmill allows you to monitor progress with 8 displays, according to which information you want to access. Press Display repeatedly to reach the desired display. The display is easy to read and follow.

Apart from elapsed time, walked/ run distance, approximate number of burned calories, speed, incline, walking/ running pace and heart rate, you’ll have a workout history of speed settings, an animation of a runner and a visual equalizer that shows volume.

You can also personalize console settings according to your workout preferences.

Workouts

The NordicTrack Commercial ZS offers 28 preset workouts, of which 9 Weight Loss, 9 Aerobic Fitness Workouts and 10 Performance Workouts. If you want more diversity, you can choose out of the 4 Create & Save workouts and make your own.

To go to a preset workout, you have to press one of the 3 categories of preset workouts until you reach the one you want. Each has 1 minute segments. At the beginning of the workout, the display will show you the name, duration, maximum incline setting and maximum speed setting.

Start the belt. You’ll have a profile of the speed settings on the display. Select the display you want and monitor your progress. You can measure your heart rate for better results.

Or, if you’re looking for some variety, create your own workout. Select a Custom Workout by pressing Custom repeatedly until you get to the name of the workout you’re looking for. Start the belt and begin the workout. You can personalize the console settings at the beginning of the workout.

And when you want to pump it up even more, you can use an iFit card (optional), which you insert into the console and press iFit Increase/ Decrease until you get to the workout you want. Start the belt and select a display mode to monitor progress. When you’re done, remove the card.

Heart Rate Monitor: Handles

The handlebars incorporate sensors that can monitor your heart rate at any time. Or, you can opt for the hands-free chest strap that you purchase separately.

We recommend you buy it. It will be useful.

You can fold the treadmill for space-saving storage. But it’s heavy and you will need assistance.

Sound System: iPOD compatible

This treadmill has nice entertainment features. To listen to your favorite music or a nice audio book, first plug in your MP3 player, or CD player or an iPOD. Follow instructions and enjoy the perks of this high-quality sound-system that includes high-end speaker and subwoofer. The sound is very clear.

iFit Workouts- Optional

This is another model ICON produces with another optinal iFIT Card Slot. To use it you need to buy the cards separately and this will cost you more.

Conclusions

The Commercial ZS model incorporates decent quality components, strong features and a nice, refined console. The 3.0 HP make the motor strong and reliable. It delivers really intense, exhausting yet efficient workouts. For the price we offered, it’s a bargain, especially for those interested in light jogging or walking.

Then, there’s the belt. The belt is comfortable because it is large (for a $1000 model) and it provides great motion and comfort. The cushion system does the trick and increases comfort during workout.

Users who weigh up to 350 lbs/ 160 kg can enjoy the features of this treadmill and the cushioning system that absorbs impact on your joints and knees and keep your body injury-free and fit. But from our point of view it will work only for the short term. For a long term model, you need to search for a more expensive treadmill.

The workout selection compresses 28 preset workouts and in addition, 4 Create & Save workouts that allow you to build your own according to your personal goals. And when you feel the need of novelties, you can insert your iFit card that you purchase separately and spice up your workouts. The treadmill can take it.

Heart rate reading is easy and comfortable. Just grasp the handlebars or attach the chest strap to your body for workouts that require your hands. But the chest strap you buy it separately.

You can cool off by turning on the fan. This will make your workouts much more enjoyable, and so will the sound system.

This model incorporates a premium sound system. The sound quality is decent. Plus you can use the iPOD. This is something we always look to have in a treadmill.

There are also disadvantages. For example, the warranty is poor. The treadmill we reviewed was new, but honestly we are reluctant to believe it will last for more than a year. Especially if 2-3 people use it daily.

Plus, the workouts inserted in the console don’t keep count of your personal details, so results are inaccurate.

But for $1000, the Commercial ZS is a good machine and we recommended it for short term use, light jogging or walking.

The idea for this article crossed my mind after a reader asked me what I recommended to him: a NordicTrack Incline Trainer or a FreeMotion Incline Trainer. He wanted also to buy the iFIT cards but he wasn’t sure which of these options were more efficient.

I’m sure he is not the only one which wonders which of these products are better. So I hope this article will clear this question.

Resembling Features between NordicTrack Incline Trainers and FreeMotion Incline Trainers

1. They are built by the same manufacturer

Icon Health & Fitness owns both brands. They are built with the same components, the same consoles and the same entertainment features.

2. They have the same quality

All Incline Trainers we tested, either from NordicTrack or FreeMotion have the same components and implicit the same quality. The motor power differs from one model to another and what you choose depends on what type of exercises you want to do. But the other details such as the belt, cushion system or frame are built from the same material.

3. They have the same console features

There are common consoles features we noticed on all Icon incliners (NordicTrack or FreeMotion).
You have the 1 Touch Speed and 1 Touch Incline, maximum 40% incline and same motor. You also have the same heart reading options.

4. All Incliners are compatible with iFIT Workouts

Nordictrack X7i Incline Trainer (which is the same as X7 Incline Trainer) is compatible with the iFIT Live Module Workouts. The other NordicTrack Incline trainers and the FreeMotion Incline Trainer is compatible with iFIT SD Cards Workouts. 5. You receive the same warranty

The warranty includes lifetime for frame and motor and 1-year for parts and labor.

Differences between NordicTrack Incline Trainers and FreeMotion Incline Trainers

1. Price versus features

FreeMotion X3 Incline Trainer for example costs the same as NordicTrack X7i Incline Trainer but it has less features.

Nordictrack T7 Si has many common features with Nordictrack T9 Ci. This is because they are part of the same Horizon T Series.

Nordictrack T9 Ci has the dedicated function of Touch Screen Display, a better incline, speed and motor, but these are basically the only important differences between these 2 similar machines. One costs $1,400 and the other $800.

The lower priced treadmill is Nordictrack T7 Si, and although we got this price from a special price offer, it’s also the right value to pay ($800).

The treadbelt enables sure footing and smooth and safe workouts. It is spacious enough, but still shorter than its superior model, Nordictrack T9 Ci Treadmill.

The belt is backed by an adjustable Cushioning System called DuraStride which reduces impact on ankles, knees and spine by 15% – 33%, in theory. This system incorporates a moveable isolator, which allows changing support from a firmer, street-like workout to a softer workout.

Nordictrack T7 SI Treadmill Features

Display:

The display includes common features for all Nordictrack treadmills. You can see the following feedback during workout:

- Speed of the belt
- Your walking pace in minutes/ miles or kilometers
- Approximate number of burned calories
- Elapsed time
- Walked or run distance
- Number of completed laps- one mile has 4 laps
- Incline setting and its changes
- Heart rate
- Animation of the road

During exercise, the left display shows you the incline of the treadmill, the elapsed time and the approximate number of burned calories. Press the Display button below the left display until you get to the information you need.

On the right display you see the walked or run distance and the speed of the walking belt.

To see the sum of miles walked and calories burned, press the Total button. The value will be shown in hundreds (5 calories= 500 calories).

The training zone bar will display the intensity of your workout and will show your position accordingly (cool down, fat burn, aerobic, endurance or performance).

Heart Rate Readings: Contact Handles

To measure your heart rate, put your hands on the handrails and keep them still for 15 seconds. This is a common feature added to offer basic feedback during workout. Don’t use it as a medical device.

To select the workout you want to pursue, press the Weight Loss Workouts button, the Aerobic Workouts button or the Performance Workouts Button. Press Start or Speed Increase to start the workout.

Each workout is divided into 1 minute segments, each segment having its own speed and incline settings. Speed and Incline changes are automatically controlled by the console. Along your workout, you will have access to essential workout feedback.

In order to create a personalized workout, press the Custom Workouts Button until you get to the workout you want. Press Start and start walking. You can re-program the settings anytime.

Both Custom workouts and Preset workouts function the same way.

Fan: Included

The 4 fan settings allow you choosing between low, medium, high or AutoBreeze of which the later automatically adjusts the airflow to your speed.

Folding Treadmill:

As other Nordictrack products, this treadmill folds vertically, which is a primary asset of this selection. Adjust the incline to the lowest position, remove the key and unplug the cord. Hold the metal frame and raise halfway to the vertical position. Note that the knob must be safely locked in the storage position.

Sound System: iPod Dock Included

You have volume controls for MP3 input only.

iFit SD Cards Workouts – Optional

Same as Nordictrack T9 Ci, the Nordictrack T7 Si Treadmill is compatible with iFIT SD Cards. If you don’t know much about them, you can read this article written by us (iFIT Workouts).

Basically, they are workouts built by professional trainers and dedicated to specific goals (example: 8 week workout program to lose pounds, workouts to train for a long distance run or a marathon). The SD Card workouts have also voice enabled to motivate you during exercise. They cost separately from the treadmill’s price but they make it a valuable asset to your workout routine if bought.

Information Mode

If you want to select the Information Mode, hold down Stop and insert the key into the console, then release the Stop button.

When you use the optional iFit SD Card workout system, you will also have audio guidance. By selecting the ON setting next to INSTRUCTION, you will receive detailed instructions from your personal trainer. By selecting PARTIAL, your personal trainer will offer only basic guidance.

Select ENGLISH for viewing the distance in miles and METRIC for kilometers.

Control also the audio settings.

Conclusions

We had a good time jogging on this machine but it was not a blast.

On this treadmill you can only jog in optimal conditions, not run. The components’ quality is fragile and at high intensity the treadmill feels unstable and noisy.

We experienced also some electrical issues. From the 1 Touch incline options 3 buttons didn’t work. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s unpleasant nevertheless. We already called NordicTrack to ask assistance for this item.

The workouts are decent, but you don’t have the option to insert your weight in the console, so the Weight Loss workouts are inefficient. And this is why we strongly recommend buying the iFIT SD Cards. These workouts determined us to enjoy working out on this treadmill, even with its limitations.

We don’t like the warranty either. 1 Year is too little for what you receive so pay attention to how you take care of the treadmill so it resists a longer time. The components are not the best and it seems a fragile machine.

On the other hand, the adjustable cushioning really succeeds to reduce the impact on the heels and knees, especially when you walk or jog.

There is one other aspect that we found a little annoying, the control panel. The A2350 PRO for example, or event Nordictrack T9 Ci have a more user friendly display. But these aspects are almost insignificant for the price you pay.

As a general conclusion, this model is a $800 treadmill (correct price). There is a good balance between the price and the features of Nordictrack T7 Si, which determines us to recommend it further on, if you need a basic and simple training machine.
