For the 2012 F3 treadmill, Life Fitness created 2 different consoles: Track console & Go console. The first provides enhanced customization, tracking options and entertainment features. This console is also available to purchase with the F3 treadmill (for $3000), but we will review it with another model from Life Fitness.

The Go console offers 13 workout programs, a wireless heart rate chest strap, 2 user profiles, 1 custom workout/ user profile, Energy Saver mode and Race mode.

The 4″ x 6″ LCD with blue background and white characters offers feedback on calories, distance, speed, incline, time, heart rate, target heart rate, METs, pace. The Low/ Med/ High button changes the incline to a preset value. The Walk/ Jog/ Run button changes the speed to a preset value.

Heart Rate Info:
As all the other treadmills launched by Life Fitness, this treadmill has a built-in heart rate monitoring system, the hand pulse sensors. You also get the wireless telemetry heart rate monitoring system.

Workouts

With the Go console, you’ll be getting Manual, Random, Hill, EZ Incline/ Resistance, Goal workouts, 2 Custom workouts, Time-based Goal training and Distance-based Goal training.

With the Race mode, users can outrun themselves against a computer-simulated pacer. The Cool down mode is based on specific time, incline and heart rate and makes sure you return to a proper heart rate level at the end of the workout. You can also activate the Warm-up mode, 2 user profiles, Go system 1-Touch Quick Start and On-the-Fly programming that allows you to surf between programs without restarting or losing the your current workout info.

Conclusions

The 2012 F3 treadmill is a comeback of the former F3. It gathers power, diversity and insured safety, and also it is compatible with 2 different consoles, each of them offering its own share of benefits for light joggers and runners.

And since we’ve been talking about the Go console, I must say its main problem is that there is also a Track console, not much more expensive but definitely more attractive.

Pros

Starting with the motor, it goes without saying that the F3 has the power to move users forward. And it’s fairly quiet, I must say. But even so, it’s not an advanced motor to keep up with ultra runners.

Also average is the running space. Taller users won’t be happy with this treadmill as it cannot sustain a longer stride. But the cushioning works great, which is one of our priorities and I’m sure we’re no rare specimen.

The Go display is easy to read and workout feedback is easy to follow. Plus, it pretty much covers every piece of info you may want to be aware of during your performance. The workouts selection is not dismissible, definitely not. Actually, more than 50% of the users may find themselves satisfied with the Go package.

But thinking about it, I can’t help feeling that spending $300-400 more on the Track console is a much better deal. More workouts, more functionality, more programming options.

But the warranty is OK. It’s satisfying. Definitely not a drawback.

Main attraction

I can’t really say there is a main attraction worth mentioning. It’s more of a list of pros, backed-up by some disadvantages. It’s a matter of choice actually, whether you find this treadmill appropriate for your current needs or not.

Drawbacks

The main drawback of this treadmill is the existence of a more advanced console, the Track console, not much more expensive. After all, what’s $300-400 next to $2600, or maybe $2300 when on sale?

This unit has several displays divided according to feedback information. It offers feedback on distance, calories, heart rate, incline, pace, speed, target heart rate and time.

This unit has an Energy Saver feature that decreases energy use with about 90% when the unit is not being used. Treadmill restarts quickly, so you won’t be waiting too much to start your workout.

Use the Navigation button for up, down, forward and back commands and also for incline, time and speed adjustments.

To start a workout, select one of the 6 preprogrammed workout buttons. Once the workout is selected, the Message Center displays the first workout set-up.

Random Workouts offer a terrain of different hills and valleys. The workout uses incline adjustments, while speed is controlled by the user.

Hill is an interval workout with two main phases, Plateau and Interval Training. This program offers great cardio.

Those looking to lose the extra weight can start a Fat Burn workout and users who want to elevate heart rate to a level between 60% and 85% can engage in Fit Test programs.

The Virtual Trainer allows you to set-up workouts and access same workouts on Life Fitness treadmills from health clubs or other locations.

This widely featured machine combines power with efficiency, allowing users to benefit from personalized programs. And not to forget, Life Fitness didn’t neglect aesthetics when they made this unit. This machine is built for intensive users who’re looking to push their own limits.

Pros

If powerful and sturdy is what you’re looking for, you should definitely check out the F1 Smart. No matter how far you want to go with this unit, rest assured it can handle it. This model is also innovative and environment friendly. When the treadmill is turned on, but not in use, the Energy Saver feature will minimize the use of energy with up to 90%. This is quite a serious thing with great benefits.

We knew this machine was sturdy even before we purchased it, but weren’t quite sure what the cushion system was all about. Now we do and we must say we’re quite satisfied. The shock absorption system reduces impact with up to 30%, which means our joints, knees, ankles, thighs, they all remain intact even when the toughest workout has ended.

The preprogrammed workouts gave us a serious push. Since you can easily alter speed and incline during workout, we tried to increase our performance day by day. First of all, this machine can back your darkest fitness desires, which is just great, and second of all, it’s amazing how your body remains totally safe.

You get to listen to your iPod music, read anything you want on the Reading Rack and fold the whole thing.
And to back everything up, this treadmill has a convincing warranty, although the motor is only guaranteed for 10 years, which is kind of a drawback.

Main Attraction

Innovative features like Energy Saver and Virtual Trainer are the main focus. They combine efficiency with motivation and they help save the environment, at least for a while.

Drawbacks

Heart Rate Readings: Handle Bars and Wireless Chest Strap

This treadmill incorporates double heart rate reading system: the Lifepulse system and the Polar telemetry.

To use the Lifepulse system, grasp the stainless steel sensors on the handlebars. Hold them for 20-30 seconds. We recommend you to use this system for speeds below 4.5mph or 7.2 kph.

If you plan to run faster or go through the Heart Rate workouts use the Polar chest strap which leaves your hands free. Use it on bare skin.

As feedback during workout you can see incline, time run or to be run, time of day, speed, distance, calories burned, heart rate. These are only some of the details listed. Workout feedback includes very detailed information which is useful to track progress accurately and correct mistakes easier.

Every LifeFitness model has also the Activity Zone with quick options for adjusting incline and speed during workout. It includes also a Quick Start button, Walk/ Jog/ Run preset buttons and a Stop button.

Heart Rate Readings: HandleBars and Wireless Chest Strap

These are the same options as detailed in the Achieve LED Review or the Inspire 7’’ Review.

Workouts:

This console comes with 36 workout programs, 6 goal workouts, 2 Create Your Own workouts and 10 custom workouts. They are split into 3 categories: Classic workouts, Heart Rate Workouts or Special Workouts:

Quick Start is the fastest way to begin exercising. You then select your workout you first set your goals: time, distance, calories, pace, distance climbed, time in zone. You can also select the intensity of your workout. There are 20 intensity levels options available and each level has a different incline value set.

We love the Marathon Mode because it allows us to train for the first marathon we plan to complete this fall. We have been preparing for the first marathon for 6 months, but this treadmill (and the others versions in this series) improved our results a lot.

The console will ask you to insert your personal details for accurate data calculations such as: weight (for calories burned), age (for targeted heart rate workouts), and gender (for accurate fitness testing).

Last but not least, note that this console alerts you on different stages of your workout with the Audio features. They are disabled when TV or FM are turned on. It’s cool to have this feature as it keeps you permanently aware of your performance.

Virtual Trainer:

With this option you can select a male or female trainer to assist during workout setup and provide audible feedback during a workout.

You can also go online, meet with your trainer virtually, create custom workouts and track results. It’s a great feature and it’s free.

You can create and save workouts to USB then transfer them into the treadmills console. The USB port is available on Inspire 7’’ model and the Engage 15’’model only.

TV Screen and Radio Options

The console has the TV screen incorporated. This option is controlled from the Touch Screen options. If you have CATV cable connected you can watch the desired TV channel. Plus you manipulate TV options as you please.

FM Controls allow you to surf through different Radio Stations and also configure channels. You listen to radio or TV and browse through the other workouts settings at the same time.

iPod Compatibility: Included

The console includes iPod compatibility. But it’s different than on other consoles. Once you insert the iPOD dock, the iPOD is controlled from the console through the Touch Screen Options.

Conclusions

We are in love with this treadmill. It has everything you have dreamed about to have on a treadmill. It’s both useful (for ANYONE) and fun.

To have EVERYTHING on a treadmill it costs you $8,000. This is a huge amount. But if you can afford it, buy it.

As Health Club Gym, you must pay attention how you allow people to use it. You need to train them first because the TouchScreen display must be correctly controlled.

The most important thing is that the warranty is great. In fact it’s the best you can have for this type of equipment.

The treadmill can be used in any field that requires you to have a high fitness level: running, military, professional contests, mountaineering. You name it and this treadmill can take it.

To sum it up, this is purchase to go for without hesitation if you can afford it.

The Achieve LED Console is basic. Some of the valuable info displayed and that we appreciate is: time remaining or elapsed time, time of day, distance climbed and heart rate.

There are other details listed too like incline, calories, Watts and METs.

Inspire 7 and Engage 15 consoles are much more complex, more advanced and more featured. Of course they also have a higher price.

Heart Rate Monitoring: Wireless Chest Strap and Contact Handles

The Platinum Club Series uses the same two heart rate monitoring systems patented by Life Fitness: the Polar wireless telemetry and Lifepulse digital contact.

To use the Lifepulse readings just grasp the handlebars for 20-30 seconds. During workout use the wireless Polar chest strap that leaves your hands free.

It is recommended that you use it on bare skin for more precise results.

Conclusions

The model is definitely dedicated for health clubs. We could recommend it only for them. As a home machine it’s very difficult to use or to store and costs too much for what you need.

This is a powerful treadmill that provides strong workout. You can use it for hours and you will not feel any difference. It makes very little noise even after intensive use. And this is an important detail to consider.

The powerful 4 hp AC is the key of this Series. This is the precursor of intense workout.

As we mentioned the Achieve LED console is only the first option in this series. It has 6 pre-programmed workouts, of which a Fit Test that we found quite effective and necessary.

The deck is comfortable, the cushioning system prevents strong impact on joints and the belt is quite generous. It can support tall or heavy runners without any problem. Plus the design is very user friendly and ergonomic.

Personally for $ 6,000 we find it a little too expensive. But the price matches a strong warranty and this is why you have a good deal when balancing warranty versus costs. If you own a Health Club, you need this type of product.

The Platinum Club Series has great potential and amazing features. From our point of view you can truly enjoy a unique Platinum Club Treadmill if you buy the Inspire 7 or the Engage 15 Consoles. Both are extremely elaborate and offer so many benefits and advantages that it makes you never want to step off of it.

Nevertheless plain and simple workouts (what Achieve LED Console has to offer) can be a wonderful experience too.

You may find it hard to believe, but this is the fitness equipment that really does it all, and for a price that matches its performance.

This console is much more featured than the Achieve LED. Firstly, the 36 workouts definitely boost you energy and keep you on the deck. Not only they are extremely efficient, but they keep you motivated always.

On top there is the possibility to access one of the 4 landscapes that you find most compelling. Then there is the Virtual Trainer ready to educate you and guide you through your training.

In addition there is the Media feature that lets you access either a TV channel or your iPod playlist. We find all these great perks, especially for beginners.

For professionals entertainment may be less important and they may not need audio guidance, so as far as media goes it may be an insignificant feature to mention to them. Still the rigorous workout you are about to get with this console is worth the money.

And talking about money, this cool machine is worth $ 7.000. Yeah, we know. This is no reasonable price for average users, but it is the price you need to pay if you want it in your home or your gym.

This is an irresistible machine. Its display features are more than complex and detailed. It gives you complete and easy control over workouts, over goals and values, over all the great features and it also incorporates an Activity Zone.

What you need to know is that for the $500 dollars difference you receive an advanced and adjustable cushion system, 3 additional preset workouts and 2 heart rate readings options instead of 1. These are the most notable upgrades T7-0 comes with.

This is a wonderful treadmill to have, if your budget allows it. After using it for several weeks we can strongly recommend it for any beginner or professional athlete, at home or at the gym. If you have the $500 more needed to buy the Life Fitness T7-0 instead of Life Fitness T5-5, choose this one. The adjustable cushion system makes it worth it.

This is the perfect home workout equipment. It seems that producers thought of every detail: from how to adjust the running surface to how to personalize your workout profile completely.

All Life Fitness Models we tested have an attractive design. For the money paid, we need this detail.

The FlexDeck Select Feature is amazing, as we mentioned above. We tested it on all levels. It replaces outside running surfaces very well. From our point of view, this model has the best cushion system from all the other Life Fitness Treadmills tested.

We also like that this treadmill allows 4 users to create personal profiles and custom workouts. Each user can save 7 pre-set workouts to access easily.

Life Fitness added up to 20 levels of difficulty for some exercises, so any runner (from beginner to an athlete) can use the entire selection. If this isn’t everything a runner needs from a treadmill, we don’t know what is.

The heart rate reading system is pretty accurate. It’s preferable you always use the Polar wireless System to have freedom during exercise. This will wear out quickly, but it doesn’t cost that much money to replace. The system itself is needed for efficient weight loss workouts.

If we got to this note we want to mention that Life Fitness Treadmills are built for overweight people too. T5-0, T5-5 or T7-0 support 400 lbs.

Life Fitness F3 and Life Fitness T3 models support 350 lbs. And it’s not just a marketing lie you usually find on cheaper models. If you want a treadmill to lose weight and use it for more than just a couple of moths (even years!) you can look at any of the Life Fitness options.

Still, we noticed the same disadvantages as on the other similar models (T5-0 and T5-5). The treadmill is very heavy! It will be hard to move around so you should place it from the beginning where you want it installed. You need help to move the pieces when they are shipped. Plus there are no entertainment features and it’s not foldable.

Life Fitness doesn’t build entertainment features. They invest in the console software and in quality components.

My Treadmill feature allows 4 users to adjust the software according to personal requirements and body information. It is meant to facilitate the ability of customizing a My Tread Profile and then save it for future use. Personal Information you enter for each user is: name, age, sex, fitness level.

My Workouts feature allows you to select up to 7 preset workouts for your profile so you can access this info easy and start workout quickly.

The Custom Workouts is another feature that backs-up the eligibility of the T5-5. This treadmill has 2 custom intervals (that allow you to edit speed and incline and target heart rate in time intervals) and 2 custom records (that allow you to adjust a Life Fitness workout and then save the changes).

Heart Rate Readings

The T5-5 comes with the Polar wireless contact heart rate monitoring system with the wireless chest strap included. There are some tips you should be aware of when using this feature. For accurate readings, you should not be close to electromagnetic signals (like TV, antennas, cells, or another wireless transmitter within 90 feet).

Conclusions

This is definitely a professional treadmill which you can use at home or in a Gym. Same as T5-0, it has been an awesome experience to use for our daily workout routine.

We mentioned at the beginning the price: $4,200. This is not a cheap treadmill (you can buy a car with this money). But the truth is that if you’re looking for a professional treadmill, Life Fitness surely has a few models you can look into.

This is one option we recommend for all professional trainers or runners.

You can always choose the T5-0 model (for $3,700) but the fact is that this treadmill is an improved version of the T5-0. It has more programs and more options on the console.

This equipment offers amazing performance. Workouts options are for any type of runners: beginners, athletes or professionals.

The running surface is complete. Workouts are smooth, impact free and effective.

The deck is generous. It gives plenty of room during workout and keeps you injury free.

Since day 1 this treadmill proved to be a secure and comfortable performance machine, there is no doubt about it. This treadmill uses a wireless heart rate monitoring system with a hands free wireless chest strap included. This is an important function to be used with most workouts installed on the treadmill.

You must replace it when it’s worn out because no other options for heart rate reading is included.

Immobilize Treadmill

In this mode treadmills’ main motor and incline motor can’t be used. To get the treadmill out of this mode repeat the same process: hold down speed key and press stop.

This machine is wild. It’s the strongest treadmill we have ever used. And we love it!

But, be aware the console includes complex settings to help you increase exercises efficiency at maximum, which are available only if you know what menus to push. This console also incorporates attractive features such as Go System One Touch Quick Start (a fast way of working out since you don’t have to set up your exercise), On the Fly Programming (lets you change workouts without losing any present information) and Cool Down Mode (which lowers your heart rate at the end of the program).

Basic Workout Console Heart Rate Readings: Through HandleBars

This feature is recommended to be used only when you don’t walk/run on the treadmill because your hands must be positioned firmly on the handlebars for accurate readings.

B. Advanced Workout Console

Workouts:

This console offers more workouts variety than the Basic Console. Please see below a full description of the options included:

Hill Workout – takes you through four phases with different intensity levels: Warm-up, a low, gradually rising resistance program; Plateau (a profile that slightly increases intensity), Interval Training (profile made of hills and valleys) and Cool-Down.

Random Workout – offers over 1 million terrain patterns.

EZ Incline Workout – incline-based. It is designed to change elevation with great subtlety. This program offers great cardiovascular workout.

Sport Training Workout – gets you ready for outdoor running (time based goals or distance based goals)

5K Sport Training – reproduces the conditions of a 5-kilometer race.

10K Sport Training

HeartSync Profile – uses the computer to calculate a target heart rate based on your age and the workout profile. HeartSync workouts are:
- Fat Burn
- Cardio
- Heart Rate Hill
- Heart Rate Interval
- Extreme Heart Rate

The Advanced console also offers Goal Workouts and 2 Custom Workouts. You have 2 user profiles available to save records with 1 Custom Workout/profile.

Advanced Workout Console Display:

Display is the same as on the Advanced Console described in the Life Fitness F3 Review.

Heart Rate Readings: Handle Bars and Wireless Chest Strap

With this console model you have included Wireless Heart Reading option through Chest Strap.The chest strap transmits your heart rate to the console, through the electrodes pressed against your skin during workout.

Make sure you attach the chest strap in the right position or the system may not work accurately.

This treadmill also offers contact heart rate hand sensors, but this option is not recommended to be used during exercise.

Conclusions

This was a wonderful experience, same as that when we tested Life Fitness F3 Treadmill. The truth is that these 2 treadmills resemble a lot. They have the same components quality and make a great choice for intensive exercise, for all types of runners.

Unfortunately we don’t understand why Life Fitness preferred adding a longer belt, better incline and better speed on a treadmill that doesn’t have folding option, and at a lower price. Because this is what Life Fitness T3 offers more than the F3 model. This is a very strange marketing decision.

Still, for those who need a longer belt, this is a good model to go for (whether you just need a machine to stay fit or you want to prepare yourself for competitions). But you also need space in your home to place it (as it doesn’t fold).

Plus, although it weighs less than Life Fitness F3 it’s still very hard to move around.

Same as on F3 model, you can choose one of the 2 console options, depending on your goals. The Basic Console is literary basic: with basic workouts for basic needs. You get 5 reprogrammed workouts that you can choose from, and we asses them as highly effective for their pre set purpose.

The Advanced console is more diverse, it offers 10 workout programs, 2 user profiles, 2 custom programs and also wireless heart rate control. We think this makes a good bargain for only $ 300 more.

Our experience with the T3 was quite long and we got to know this equipment with all its pros and cons.

You don’t have a fan to cool you down or a sound system to keep you motivated during workout. But these are secondary features which are dismissible for those who prefer quality over comfort.

Another fact is that the warranty is good (still not the best for this price range). But if you take good care of the treadmill, you should be able to use it for a long period of time.

This treadmill can hold up to 350 pounds (literally, not just in theory) which is a plus as it allows all types of users.

The Life Fitness T3 does not incorporate all benefits that users seek when making a treadmill decision, but it does stand up to the Life Fitness reputation. This is a treadmill of great quality that we strongly recommend to all types of users.

For $ 2.500, the Basic console is a good bargain, and for only $ 300 more, the Advanced version will make the price worth it.
