Two weeks ago we wrote about the iFIT workouts (what are their advantages and weaknesses, how to install the iFIT LIVE module, how iFIT LIVE workouts work and what SD cards recommendations we offer). The article had a big success among our readers so we decided to add a second part which will be of great help.

In this article you will find a list of treadmills that we tested and are compatible with the iFIT Workouts (cards or LIVE Module).

This is an important article because, as we mentioned before, iFIT workouts are a cool feature but if they are not installed on the right the treadmill, the workouts efficiency is almost null. In some cases it is listed just to attract you as buyer, but it will not offer you the satisfaction you’re looking for.

Unfortunately, not all treadmills have the workouts included in the treadmill’s original price. You can see it listed in the specs of the treadmills but some have it listed as compatible (which translates into not included) and some have it listed as included. Even is included, the IFIT LIVE Module comes with a special subscription offer and you must pay attention to this too.

These are the treadmills we tested and reviewed together with the iFIT workouts. Read the entire reviews before making a buy decision. It will save you some money and time.

- FreeMotion T5.6 Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This treadmill costs around $3000. The SD Cards must be bought additional to this price range. But from our point of view you don’t need to buy them as the console already comes with 30 preset workouts.

- NordicTrack Commercial ZS Treadmill Review(SD Cards)

This is a $1000 model. The price is decent and the treadmill performs well. You can buy the cards if you want to, but they are a separate cost from the treadmill price.

- Freemotion T5.2 Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This is a $2500 treadmill with optional iFIT Card slot included. This is a little overpriced treadmill from our point of view, but if you want a reliable treadmill to practice iFIT Workouts this is a good model. Remember you buy the iFIT cards separately.

- Freemotion T7.5 Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This treadmill has the SD card slot so you can buy the extra iFIT SD cards available if interested. It’s worth the investment from our point of view.

- HealthRider H95t Treadmill Review (iFIT Module)

This treadmill is compatible with iFIT LIVE Module which comes as an optional accessory and costs additional to treadmills’ price ($1,000). We recommend going with this purchase if you buy this treadmill.

- HealthRider H75t Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This is a $1,000 treadmill. iFIT SD cards are compatible, but are not included. For what this treadmill can do, we recommend buying the iFIT cards (we say they are not mandatory). The preset workouts selection is pretty good also.

- Freemotion X3 Incline Trainer Review (SD Cards)

This Incline Trainer is similar to NordicTrack Incline Trainer versions. The price is around $1,500 but the cards are optional. It’s a good purchase decision if you want to have them.

- HealthRider R60 SoftStrider Treadmill Review (CDs, VideoCassettes and Website Downloads)

This treadmill is one that comes with the first Optional iFIT workouts system. Its price is $1,500 (way too expensive). We confirm every iFIT system compatible is Optional (no workouts are included).

- Nordictrack T7 SI Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This treadmill is priced $800 (a decent value for the features offered). SD workouts are compatible, not included but they make a valuable asset to your buy because the preset exercises included are not very efficient.

- Nordictrack T9 CI Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This treadmill is $1,400 priced and has the SD cards Compatible (NOT included). It already comes with interesting workouts so it’s not mandatory to add the iFIT workouts. Still, they are helpful for those who want to follow a strict program and need guidance from a professional trainer.

- NordicTrack A2350 PRO Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE Module)

This treadmill costs little, only $700. Nordictrack made it compatible with the iFIT LIVE Module (which is NOT included in the price) so that it can make it more appealing to buyers. Still, it’s a treadmill that can take little and it’s not built to resist long years.

- Nordictrack X5i Incline Trainer Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE Module)

This treadmill is part of the Incline Series (together with X3 and X7 models we reviewed previously). This is the middle model priced at $1,600, but only compatible with the iFIT LIVE Module. It’s not included in the price. This is a machine dedicated to weight loss. Buying this extra module is strongly recommended. See the review for more details.

- Nordictrack Incline Trainer X3 Interactive Review (SD cards)

This treadmill is part of the Incline Series, priced at $1,400. The SD cards are not included, you have to buy them separately. There are some limitations you must be aware of, and we mentioned them in our review. But, in the end, is a good offer for those interested in losing weight and it’s worth investing more money in having the SD cards too.

- ProForm 1050T Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

The SD cards are optional on this treadmill. The price is $900 and it’s an offer worth investing the extra money to have the iFIT workouts.

- ProForm 590T Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This is a $600 treadmill compatible with SD cards, but they are not included. This is a treadmill on which you can only walk this is why the iFIT workouts are not recommended to be added.

- NordicTrack Reflex 4500 Pro Treadmill Review (SD workouts, iFIT LIVE)

This is a $2,000 treadmill and at this price you would expect to have the iFIT LIVE module included, but it doesn’t. Instead you have 26 pre-set iFIT workouts included in the console, which are enough.

- NordicTrack Commercial 1500 Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a very attractive offer because for $1,300 you have the LIVE Module included. This is a treadmill we recommend.

- NordicTrack Elite 9500 PRO Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This is a $1,700 treadmill which has the SD cards optional, not included. The price is high because a TV screen is included, but features are similar to NordicTrack Commercial 1500.

- NordicTrack A2750 Pro Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

The treadmill costs $1,000. It’s a very good price especially because you have already few pre-set iFIT workouts included in the console memory. They are not in cards format, but added directly in the console. The iFIT live module is optional, but for the price paid it’s quite normal. This is a good treadmill.

- NordicTrack A2550 PRO Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $800 treadmill, with basic features. It’s compatible with iFIT LIVE which makes it an attractive option.

- NordicTrack X7 Incline Trainer Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $2,000 treadmill, with the iFIT LIVE module included and ready to support your intensive training at anytime. This is why we strongly recommend it.

- ProForm XT 90 Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $900 treadmill (correct price) but with uncomfortable features. The iFIT LIVE is just compatible, not included.

- ProForm Power 690 Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $1,300 treadmill, but the module is not included for this price. It’s not a recommended option.

- ProForm 585V Perspective Folding Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This treadmill is only compatible with SD cards. It’s a very good treadmill with a very pleasant design.

Heart Rate readings: through Contact Handles

This is just a feature. The pre-set workouts’ design make it difficult to use properly as you can’t know your target heart rate unless you use a 3rd party tool. Without this info, which is based on your age/weight, the true purpose of the Heart Rate (to use this info in calculating an approximate number of calories burned during exercise) is not fulfilled.

Still this is a $600 treadmill which can never act like a $2.000 version.

Backlit LCD Display:
On the console you have a Display button. Push it until you get to the info you want to read. Below are some details regarding the feedback you can see during exercise:

- Track display in Manual mode (a 400 m track). Running progress is displayed on the track during this exercise.
- Speed
- Distance ran/walked
- Elapsed time
- Pace in minutes/miles or minutes/km
- Approximate number of Calories burned

Heart Rate readings: through Contact Handles

This tool is just a workout aid, not a medical instrument.
To have an accurate reading, keep your hands steady on the handles for at least 15 seconds.

Workouts:

- 1 Manual Workout
- 12 Quick Calories Burn pre-set workouts
- iFit SD cards workouts compatible (not included). These are also pre-set workouts.

Pre set workouts control automatically speed and incline during exercise, for each 1 minute interval. You can control the values manually if the predefined values are too demanding for you, but you must do this for each 1 minute interval.

This treadmill doesn’t allow inserting your own details, like weight. This is why the number of calories displayed during exercise is a generic value (approximated for a standard weight value). If you follow a calories based diet, you must keep count of this important detail.

IFit SD Cards

The treadmill is compatible with iFIT SD cards, but they don’t come in the same price. You must buy these separately.

We decided to dedicate this article to iFIT LIVE module workouts and the SD cards after having the opportunity to test them on a few treadmills during our reviews. Read the iFIT Treadmills article too to see which models can support this feature and how they acted when we tested them.

What we can say from the beginning is that our experience with the iFIT workouts, either tested with the LIVE module or as SD Cards, has been great.

iFIT Workouts Advantages:

- iFIT workouts are challenging because they are built following a complete workout recipe, by professional trainers. Each workout pushes you to your next limit which is the key to a successful training program.

- The workouts have voices commands too. This replaces a personal trainer with so little costs.

- Workouts control the speed and incline of each treadmill they are installed on, automatically. So you just have to listen to the commands the trainer gives you and keep running.

iFIT Workouts Disadvantages:

- iFIT LIVE module, although revolutionary, is still in beta version. This is why you may often meet difficulties when using or installing it. In this case you have to contact their Customer Support.

- iFIT SD workouts are bought separately from the treadmill cost. This means extra money for the user but also more benefits

- Although workouts are compatible with many ICON FITNESS treadmills, only some are real powerful and stable to support them all the way. Always read the review of the treadmill which has this feature listed. Although an attractive feature, may not be efficient at all on weak treadmills. With some models it’s listed just as a mechanism to get your money.

iFIT LIVE Module

We had the chance to be present when a friend installed the iFIT LIVE Module on his NordicTrack X7 Incliner. It was then when we understood this was not an easy process and it can really mess with you if you’re not somehow familiar with the Internet and Software products.

In this article we want to share with you what we’ve discovered about this module so far.

What You Need to Install the iFIT LIVE MODULE Correctly:

* A PC with Windows or a Mac
* A wireless router with SSID broadcast enabled and Internet connection.
* A decent Internet connection
* A subscription on iFIT.com
* A treadmill produced by ICON Health & Fitness compatible with the iFIT LIVE Module

Tips we Recommend when Intalling the iFIT LIVE Module.

* After you connect the iFIT Module to the PC with the USB cable go to the web address they recommend.

* Register your profile at iFIT website and you will download workouts to match your personal details. This is important to reach your goals correctly.

* While you have the USB cable connected you must install the software as well. When you get the message the installation is complete, you can insert the module in the Treadmill console and remove the USB cable.

* When you insert the iFIT Module in the console you must enable the WiFi connection and make sure the module is connected to the Internet Wireless.

* Turn on the treadmill and you will get the message Updates are required. Don’t ignore that message or you’ll be sorry later. Have patience and allow the iFIT Module software to update, even if it takes some hours. During this process, don’t remove the module and go have a coffee with friends.

* This is BETA software, meaning updates are done all the time. This is neither the final nor the perfect product. Still, it’s wonderful to use once you install it.

iFIT LIVE Workouts:

Jillian Michaels and her trainers send you the workouts in your iFIT account which you must follow according to their schedule. The iFIT module downloads the workouts in the treadmill console through the WiFi internet connection. Speed and Incline are automatically controlled during the workout. All you need to do is follow the instructions the trainer gives you verbally.

The advantage is you can monitor your progress directly in your iFIT account when you login from your PC.

If you have an iPhone (but it’s not mandatory) you can simply send your meals info to your account so the trainers can customize your workouts accordingly. They send you workouts daily.

Google Maps is the feature we love the most. NordicTrack X7 Incline Trainer has this feature enabled. This feature allows you to run on your favorite routes, like the Boston Marathon for example. The options are unlimited as you can download thousands of routes in the treadmill console. The treadmill automatically changes the incline of the treadmill (up and down) to simulate terrain.

ProForm put the XT 90 Treadmill model for sale in the middle of January. It was offered at $900. When this review is published the treadmill is listed at $1,500 on their website.

ProForm is a good brand. The XT 90 2010 model especially is dedicated to those interested in losing weight (a goal most people set up at the beginning of each year).

It comes with an interesting 20% incline feature with the purpose of allowing to lose weight at a faster and more efficient pace.

But, is it really worth spending $1,500 on this machine? Or this treadmill is in fact only a $900 model?

ProForm XT 90 Specifications

1. Speed: 1-10 MPH
Speed is changed through QuickSpeed buttons (arrow up/down) located on the console.

2. Incline: 10% and 20%
There are two incline levels controlled manually from the front of treadmill (not from the console). To increase the incline, you must raise the frame until you hear a click. To decrease the incline, raise the frame until you hear a click and then lower the frame.

3. Motor: 2.0 CHP Mach Z Motor
This motor has a self cooling system, which is good.

4. Belt: 18in x 55in
The belt is backed by ProTech Cushioning to reduce impact over joints

5. Adjustable Shock Cylinders
Each of the 2 Shock Cylinders this treadmill has comes with a knob. To adjust each cylinder you must align the arrow on the shock cylinder with the firmness level written on the knob. 1 is the least firm and 24 is the most firm. Both cylinders must have the same level. Keep in mind that the faster you run on the treadmill or the more you weigh, the firmer the shock cylinders should be.

When you run, set the firmness level to at least 16. If the shock cylinders make noise as you run, just increase the firmness level.

This feature is possible through ProShox Technology that comes with 24 intensity positions.

6. Supported User Weight: 0-325 lbs

7. Warranty:
You receive a lifetime warranty for frame, lifetime warranty for motor, 2 years for parts and 1 year for labor.

ProForm XT 90 Special Features

1. Console display mode:

During the workout you can see the following info on the console:

* elapsed time
* distance
* number of vertical feet you have climbed
* speed
* pace (minutes/mile)
* calories burned (approximate number)

2. Heart Rate readings: it doesn’t have

3. Workouts:

The console features twenty preset workouts: seven walk workouts, seven jog workouts, and six run workouts. Each preset workout automatically controls the speed of the treadmill.

In the 24 preset workouts you got 2 Predefined Walk workouts for each 10% and 20% incline. You also have 1 predefined jog workout for 10% incline, 1 predefined run workout for 20% incline.

4. iFit Compatible:

The console features an iFit training mode that allows your treadmill to communicate with your wireless network through an iFit Live module. This treadmill is a 2010 model ProForm has in their special offer list at the end of 2009. When we say special list we mean that at this moment you can buy this model for $1,300.

At first glance what is attractive to this machine is the folding system, the power of the motor, the iFit card system and for some also the Distance Workouts.

But these features are found on other offers ProForm has in offer for less money (up to $900).

We gave this machine a try. Find out more about our conclusions at the end of this review.

ProForm Power690 Special Features

1. Space Saver Design
The deck folds (almost) vertically which allows saving space.

2. Dual Grip EKG Heart Rate Monitor
Handle Bars are positioned parallel with the front of the console. Heart rate readings are done through the handlebars and listed on the console. For accurate readings stay with the hands on the handlebars at least 15 seconds.

3. iFit Training Module

This module is optional, not included.

4. Grafixx Display
Display is more fun and interactive with Grafixx Display.

This is what you see while working out:
- The incline level
- The speed
- The distance walked or run
- The elapsed time
- Pace in minutes per mile or minutes per kilometer
- The approximate number of calories burned
- Heart rate

5. 16 preset Workouts:
- 4 Distance workouts (1 mile, 5k, 10k or half marathon)
- 4 Performance Workouts

Manual mode appears every time the key is inserted. Note that each workout controls automatically incline and speed.

6. Fan
Fan has low and high speeds. If you turn on the fan and forget it after you complete the training it will automatically turn off after a few minutes.

7. Compatible with iPod and Sound System included
In the Audio jack you can connect a CD player, and MP3 player or the iPod. Sound is played on the console speakers.

We received this treadmill at our home 2 weeks ago. From the first time we saw it we considered it a beautiful machine from design point of view. And indeed this is an impressive piece of equipment at first glance.

ProForm states 585V Perspective model is a machine in the top end of the extensive range of treadmills. This is because the machine comes with a TV screen display that can play both DVD or TV, it has a various range of workouts included (and also compatible with iFit cards), it has a strong motor backed by a reliable cushioning system and a modern design display and usability.

The belt is wide enough to accommodate tall person and it’s heavy enough to support larger weights. Also it’s easy to fold because of the Lift Assist system and easy to store because of the Space Saver features added.

Basically from what you read in the specs and from its looks ProForm 585V Perspective Folding Treadmill should have it all to satisfy casual runners and most of all, to satisfy any pocket because it’s rated to have an irresistible price ($1,200).

ProForm 585V Perspective Treadmill Specifications

Top speed reached is 12 mph and it can be changed easily through the Quick Speed Control with just one button touch.

2. Inclination: 0-15%
Through the Quick Incline and One Touch Incline Selection incline settings can be easily changed during or before workout.

ProForm 585 Perspective comes with a 2.25 silent Horsepower Commercial Grade Motor.

4. Walking Belt: 20”x55”
The belt is backed with an Impact Absorption System: ProShox Plus which is designed to reduce impact over joints by up to 32% in comparison with road running.

The machine comes with lifetime frame cover, 5 years warranty for the motor and 2 years full parts and labor.

ProForm 585V Perspective Special Features

26 Workouts
The treadmill includes an impressive number of workouts: 20 pre-set, 4 heart rate control and 2 custom options.

Interactive Workout: iFit Compatible
This machine is also iFit SD Card compatible so you can add even more workouts to satisfy your training goals.

Pulse Measurement: EKG TM Grip
This is a hand pulse sensor completed with a chest heart rate sensor for a more accurate heart-rate reading.

Lift Assist and Space Saver
Lift Assist helps during folding process while Space Saver makes this machine easier to store in your own home.

Blue Backlit Display
The console Features LCD display to track speed, incline, distance, pulse, time and calories. Blue Backlit display is also included.

Flat Screen TV
The 7″ flat screen TV is designed to entertain during workout. It’s built so that it’s possible to add a DVD player or other equipment with the RCA jack behind the console.

Auto Breeze Workout Fan
Four fan settings allow choosing between low, medium, high or auto breeze which automatically changes the airflow to match the speed of the treadmill.
The machine can sustain a maximum user weight of 300 lbs.

Conclusions

For our review we used this machine 7 times per week, 5 miles per day. We used walk, run and heart rate control programs plus the inclines controls. After completing our intensive tests we confirm that this machine resisted very well.

Still it’s important we mention a very big disadvantage we noted. When we needed to move this treadmill from where we installed it we got disappointed to see that it was way too heavy for one person (it was difficult even in 2). The machine weighs almost 120 kilos so be attentive to this aspect if you choose to buy it.

We definitely like the cushioning system because it feels much better to the feet while running (it really reduces impact over joints in comparison with road running). This is an important plus especially for those who have feet problems.

As entertainment features ProForm 585 Perspective model comes with a TV screen (pretty cool at first impression). You can connect also a DVD so you have 2 options to enjoy during training: watch TV or a DVD. The video quality and sound are pretty decent (not the greatest though).

From our point of view, TV/DVD incorporated in a treadmill display is definitely an optional feature to have because when we train we focus on running. When we watch TV or a DVD, we focus on relaxing.

But we liked more the MP3 input which helps if you prefer listening to music (which we do). Unfortunately the sound quality is not the greatest, as already mentioned.

We appreciate the machine is very quiet even at high speed. But we were a little disappointed by the hand grips heart rating monitor which are not very accurate.

Another plus is that we like the warranty which ensures us that on a long term this machine is reliable and the manufacturers knew this from the moment they put ProForm 585 on the market.

As a conclusion: this is definitely a good to buy option if you are a regular home user trainer. It can work for a professional trainer also but we would recommend a more expensive product to satisfy all pros expectations.

The ProForm 4.5 Trainer Treadmill comes with a powerful 2.75 HP motor that can please most walkers, joggers and casual runners. The belt is pretty spacious but it would have been nicer if they had gone for a longer belt.

This treadmill comes also with a decent sound system and an IPod dock. It includes 8 built in workouts and a very nice Weight Loss Center.

Overall we consider this treadmill has a good value for an economy class machine.

It would be nice if they extended the warranty for parts and if the incline system and maximum speed values were higher. But in the end this is an economy treadmill so it’s worth the money spent.

The ProForm 4.5 Trainer treadmill has a very nice console and overall a beautiful design. It comes with a good & powerful motor and with a very solid frame.

We especially like the Custom Weight Loss center control. This feature lets you create a custom training program based on your personal details and goals.

We also appreciate the Interplay Universal iPod Dock system and the 2 speakers.

The lifetime warranty for the motor is a plus but at the same time we wish we had a better warranty for parts.

We have one complaint about the belt because it has only 55 inches in length. A 60 inches belt would add more value to this treadmill.

Overall the ProForm 4.5 Trainer Treadmill is a good and solid machine that will fit perfectly in your home gym. But this is still an economy treadmill and we don’t think it will please a serious runner or a heavy trainer.

The ProForm 9.0 Competitor treadmill is one of the newest ProForm machines and maybe one of the best treadmills they’ve built so far. This training machine comes with a good motor, a long & spacious belt and 20 training workouts.

The ProForm 9.0 Competitor treadmill comes also with the Competition Training Center that allows you to race against virtual opponents. It is a very nice feature which adds more value to this treadmill.

Overall this is a very good machine and it’s probably one of the best treadmills you can buy for under 1000$ price.

Conclusions

We always love to find nice training features on the treadmills we review. This time ProForm surprised us with the Competition Training center. You can race against several virtual competitors that try to beat you before the finish line or while you are running on a hill.

Another good thing is the long belt (60 inches) that allows taller person to train in proper conditions.

We also like the life warranty and we appreciate the fact that they give a 2 year warranty for parts and one year for the belt (ProForm usually gives 90 days warranty for parts so this is a big thing for them). That means they don’t expect any problems with the treadmill for at least 2-3 years which is a very good sign.

Also we think that this treadmill would be a much better machine if it had a stronger motor. Right now it’s powered by a 2.5 CHP motor which is a good enough for most users but it will not work for heavy runners.

Overall the ProForm 9.0 Competitor Treadmill is the best economy machine built by ProForm and we highly recommend it.

First of all we have to be very clear: the ProForm Crosswalk 300 treadmill is a budget machine and we’ve analyzed it as a good or bad machine in comparison to other treadmills in economy class.

This treadmill costs 400$ so it’s normal to have many limitations. The motor has only 2.25 CHP but for this money it’s the best you get. A big minus is the relatively narrow belt (18″ x 50″) that constrains your movements.

This treadmill has one main advantage: The Crosswalk Arms. This function allows you to train the upper body while doing your regular cardio workouts. The console includes also some workouts especially designed after this feature.

The short warranty is a disadvantage so we recommend that if you buy this model get the extended warranty.

The ProForm Crosswalk 300 treadmill is a solution for those who don’t want to spend a lot on a treadmill. If you are a runner or expect your treadmill to receive heavy usage avoid this model. If you like the CrossWalk feature you can go for the ProForm Crosswalk 500 version.
