NordicTrack Commercial ZS is a product of Icon Health and Fitness. This model comes with an improved design, but otherwise it resembles a lot with NordicTrack Commercial 1500.

Commercial ZS is a 2009 model. But we found it available at a good price in 2010. Its reputation is not that good, still we had a nice experience.

Display Info

This treadmill allows you to monitor progress with 8 displays, according to which information you want to access. Press Display repeatedly to reach the desired display. The display is easy to read and follow.

Apart from elapsed time, walked/ run distance, approximate number of burned calories, speed, incline, walking/ running pace and heart rate, you’ll have a workout history of speed settings, an animation of a runner and a visual equalizer that shows volume.

You can also personalize console settings according to your workout preferences.

Workouts

The NordicTrack Commercial ZS offers 28 preset workouts, of which 9 Weight Loss, 9 Aerobic Fitness Workouts and 10 Performance Workouts. If you want more diversity, you can choose out of the 4 Create & Save workouts and make your own.

To go to a preset workout, you have to press one of the 3 categories of preset workouts until you reach the one you want. Each has 1 minute segments. At the beginning of the workout, the display will show you the name, duration, maximum incline setting and maximum speed setting.

Start the belt. You’ll have a profile of the speed settings on the display. Select the display you want and monitor your progress. You can measure your heart rate for better results.

Or, if you’re looking for some variety, create your own workout. Select a Custom Workout by pressing Custom repeatedly until you get to the name of the workout you’re looking for. Start the belt and begin the workout. You can personalize the console settings at the beginning of the workout.

And when you want to pump it up even more, you can use an iFit card (optional), which you insert into the console and press iFit Increase/ Decrease until you get to the workout you want. Start the belt and select a display mode to monitor progress. When you’re done, remove the card.

Heart Rate Monitor: Handles

The handlebars incorporate sensors that can monitor your heart rate at any time. Or, you can opt for the hands-free chest strap that you purchase separately.

We recommend you buy it. It will be useful.

Fan- Incorporated

Folding options

You can fold the treadmill for space-saving storage. But it’s heavy and you will need assistance.

The idea for this article crossed my mind after a reader asked me what I recommended to him: a NordicTrack Incline Trainer or a FreeMotion Incline Trainer. He wanted also to buy the iFIT cards but he wasn’t sure which of these options were more efficient.

I’m sure he is not the only one which wonders which of these products are better. So I hope this article will clear this question.

Resembling Features between NordicTrack Incline Trainers and FreeMotion Incline Trainers

1. They are built by the same manufacturer

Icon Health & Fitness owns both brands. They are built with the same components, the same consoles and the same entertainment features.

2. They have the same quality

All Incline Trainers we tested, either from NordicTrack or FreeMotion have the same components and implicit the same quality. The motor power differs from one model to another and what you choose depends on what type of exercises you want to do. But the other details such as the belt, cushion system or frame are built from the same material.

3. They have the same console features

There are common consoles features we noticed on all Icon incliners (NordicTrack or FreeMotion).
You have the 1 Touch Speed and 1 Touch Incline, maximum 40% incline and same motor. You also have the same heart reading options.

4. All Incliners are compatible with iFIT Workouts

Nordictrack X7i Incline Trainer (which is the same as X7 Incline Trainer) is compatible with the iFIT Live Module Workouts. The other NordicTrack Incline trainers and the FreeMotion Incline Trainer is compatible with iFIT SD Cards Workouts. 5. You receive the same warranty

The warranty includes lifetime for frame and motor and 1-year for parts and labor.

Nordictrack T7 Si has many common features with Nordictrack T9 Ci. This is because they are part of the same Horizon T Series.

Nordictrack T9 Ci has the dedicated function of Touch Screen Display, a better incline, speed and motor, but these are basically the only important differences between these 2 similar machines. One costs $1,400 and the other $800.

The lower priced treadmill is Nordictrack T7 Si, and although we got this price from a special price offer, it’s also the right value to pay ($800).

Nordictrack T7 SI Treadmill Features

Display:

The display includes common features for all Nordictrack treadmills. You can see the following feedback during workout:

- Speed of the belt
- Your walking pace in minutes/ miles or kilometers
- Approximate number of burned calories
- Elapsed time
- Walked or run distance
- Number of completed laps- one mile has 4 laps
- Incline setting and its changes
- Heart rate
- Animation of the road

During exercise, the left display shows you the incline of the treadmill, the elapsed time and the approximate number of burned calories. Press the Display button below the left display until you get to the information you need.

On the right display you see the walked or run distance and the speed of the walking belt.

To see the sum of miles walked and calories burned, press the Total button. The value will be shown in hundreds (5 calories= 500 calories).

The training zone bar will display the intensity of your workout and will show your position accordingly (cool down, fat burn, aerobic, endurance or performance).

Heart Rate Readings: Contact Handles

To measure your heart rate, put your hands on the handrails and keep them still for 15 seconds. This is a common feature added to offer basic feedback during workout. Don’t use it as a medical device.

To select the workout you want to pursue, press the Weight Loss Workouts button, the Aerobic Workouts button or the Performance Workouts Button. Press Start or Speed Increase to start the workout.

Each workout is divided into 1 minute segments, each segment having its own speed and incline settings. Speed and Incline changes are automatically controlled by the console. Along your workout, you will have access to essential workout feedback.

In order to create a personalized workout, press the Custom Workouts Button until you get to the workout you want. Press Start and start walking. You can re-program the settings anytime.

Both Custom workouts and Preset workouts function the same way.

Fan: Included

The 4 fan settings allow you choosing between low, medium, high or AutoBreeze of which the later automatically adjusts the airflow to your speed.

Folding Treadmill:

As other Nordictrack products, this treadmill folds vertically, which is a primary asset of this selection. Adjust the incline to the lowest position, remove the key and unplug the cord. Hold the metal frame and raise halfway to the vertical position. Note that the knob must be safely locked in the storage position.

Sound System: iPod Dock Included

You have volume controls for MP3 input only.

iFit SD Cards Workouts – Optional

Same as Nordictrack T9 Ci, the Nordictrack T7 Si Treadmill is compatible with iFIT SD Cards. If you don’t know much about them, you can read this article written by us (iFIT Workouts).

Basically, they are workouts built by professional trainers and dedicated to specific goals (example: 8 week workout program to lose pounds, workouts to train for a long distance run or a marathon). The SD Card workouts have also voice enabled to motivate you during exercise. They cost separately from the treadmill’s price but they make it a valuable asset to your workout routine if bought.

Display:

The console offers the possibility to customize settings:

- User weight
You have to press Set User Weight (the weight is measured in pounds). Press the numbered buttons to select your weight and press Enter. Don’t forget you can’t exceed 325 Ibs/ 147 Kg.

- Calendar
Press Reset Calendar. Press Yes if you want to delete or existent workout information and No if you want to save it.

- Time and Date
You need this setting so that the console accurately records your workout information in the Workout Journal. Press Set Date and Time button. Press the information you want to change, press Increase/ Decrease until you get to the desired setting. Press Done when finished.

- The Display Demo Mode
To turn the Display Mode On/ Off, scroll down the menu and select Demo On/ Off. Press Home to exit the settings mode.

- Personalize Equalizer Settings
Press Home to return to main menu and then press Equalizer. Scroll through and select the desired setting.

Workouts

The console features 16 preset workouts of which 8 Weight Loss workouts and 8 Performance workouts. There is also the option to customize up to 4 workouts that you can save for future use. Before starting any workout, personalize the Console settings, as detailed above.

To use a preset workout, first insert key. Customize console settings and select the type of workout you want to undertake: Weight Loss or Performance by scrolling up and down the Menu. Press the screen near one of the workout types and slide your finger over the screen until you reach the desired workout.

The screen will give you the following information, according to your selection: the name, maximum incline setting, total time, maximum speed setting.

If you select a workout as a favorite, you will be able to access two workouts with a touch of a button.

Press Start to start your workout. The display will constantly show you your progress. If you want to stop exercising, press Stop. To restart, press Start or the Speed Increase button.

To create your own workout, first insert key. Scroll through the main menu and select Custom. Slide your finger across the display until you reach the desired workout. After the selection has been made, the display will offer the workout information.

Press Start. To program Speed and Incline for the first 1 minute segment of the exercise, press the Speed and Incline buttons and adjust according to your requirements. To increase the length of the workout, wait until the workout is finished, then press Start and set the Speed and Incline for as many segments as you want. You can choose as much as 40 segments. When you are done adding the desired number of settings, press Stop twice.

A challenging feature is the iFit Competition Training workout.

In order to use this feature, you must first insert key and personalize settings according to your needs. Then, personalize race settings if desired. To do that, scroll through the menu, press the screen near Competition and press Settings.

To select a competition workout, press Competition. You can either race against one opponent or a group of four. Press Head to Head if you choose only one opponent. Each of your competitors will have attached the level of endurance, average speed, maximum speed and level of spirit. Select the desired distance.
Select Race Against a Pack if you choose a group.

Adjust the speed and incline as desired, your opponents will do the same. Follow your progress. The display will show animated runners of which the one labeled “U” is you and the others will be your opponents. A map of your course will appear and also the number of seconds that you’re ahead of the others. Also, you will see your rank in the race and all the other common information that the display offers.

iFit Fitness Journal

iFIT Fitness Journal records all the information on your performance.

To access this menu is easy. The button is on the Console. After you press it a calendar will appear. You can select a specific date to review feedback. Keep count this system counts total info, not specific per user.

iFIT Fitness Journal is a data base of your workouts that tracks down:

- total miles/km you’ve walked or run
- total approximate number of burned calories
- average speed
- average pace

Heart Rate Readings: through Handrails

Monitor your heart rate through the handrails. Stand on the foot rails and hold the metal contacts on the handrails. Keep your hands still until the pulse is detected, minimum 15 seconds. Don’t forget this is not a medical device.

The NordicTrack A2350 PRO is a great choice for a home treadmill, especially if you’re a walker. This model is the improved 2010 version of Nordictrack A2350, an older model we reviewed a couple of years ago.

This equipment offers an attractive set of features that make it a notable machine for Nordictrack, and the price talks for itself.

For $700, this treadmill is a great selection, but if you expect it to do wonders, you should just go look for a superior model (over $1,000).

Display:

The NordicTrack A2350 PRO is one of the most famous treadmills of Nordictrack due to its price/features balance.

The display offers great feedback which makes workout much more effective. By being in continuous contact to clear statements of your progress, workouts become both more enjoyable and more productive.

Regardless of the type of workout you choose, the display will permanently keep track of essential elements that you need to be aware of:

- Incline level
- Speed
- Elapsed time
- Walked or run distance
- Your pace in minutes/ mile or kilometer
- Approximate number of burned calories
- Heart rate

Workouts:

- 10 Perfomance Workouts
- 6 Weight Loss Workouts

The NordicTrack A2350 PRO features 16 preset workouts, of which 6 calorie workouts and 10 performance workouts. These workouts represent a very effective way of losing weight or just keeping fit. The 20 inches wide treadbelt offers more room to walk, run or jog.

To use one of the preset workouts, you should follow these steps:

Insert the key

Select the desired workout by using the Increase/ Decrease buttons next to the Enter button. After highlighting Workouts, choose your category, press Enter and select the workout.

After the selection has been made, the display will give you the name, duration, maximum speed setting, maximum incline setting and a general profile of the speed settings

Remember that a distance workout doesn’t give you the duration of the program

Press Start and the treadmill will adjust to the speed and incline settings of the workout.

The preset workout holds to major segments: speed settings and incline settings. During workout, the display will show your progress

Note that the calories you will burn depend on your weight. The estimated goal of burned calories that the workout offers remains theoretical. It all depends on your weight.

Choose the desired display mode to follow your progress.

Monitor your heart rate, if you wish to.

When the workout ends, remove the key.

Preset workouts control the speed and incline automatically.

iFit LIVE MODULE – Optional, Not Included

This module is optional, but it’s a strong feature and we recommend you to buy it. More details about the iFIT module’s features are listed in this article (iFIT Workouts)

Heart Rate Reading: through handlebars

You can easily monitor your heart rate by using the handgrip pulse sensors. With your hands clean, stand on the foot rails and hold your hands still on the contacts. After the pulse is detected, your heart rate will be displayed. For more accuracy, stand still for another 15 seconds.

Remember this info is just pure workout feedback. This is not a medical device, just a standard feature.

Stereo Sound System: iPOD compatible

To enjoy your favorite tracks or books or whatever keeps you motivated, you can insert an audio device into the console. Check if the audio wire if fully plugged in. Press Play on your audio device and select the desired volume by pressing Increase/ Decrease.

Information Mode

The information Mode is highly important for treadmills’ maintenance due to its permanent display of the total distance of the walking belt and total number of hours that the treadmill has been in use. With this info you can know when it’s time to lubricate the belt, check if the belt is off-center or slips when you walk on. You should do these check-ups every 2-3 weeks.

From this menu you also select if you want to see display in English or Metric form (miles or km).

To select this mode, hold Stop, insert key and then release the Stop button. When activated, the mode will display the information.

To change the unit of measurement, select English for Meters and Metric for Kilometers.

When the iFit life Module is plugged in correctly in this mode you can check the Wifi Status. If a USB is plugged in, the message will be “USB Status”. When there is no device plugged in, the message will be “No Module Detected”.

The Nordictrack X5i Incline Trainer is the middle option in the Incline Trainer Series (which includes also X3 Incline Trainer and X7 Incline Trainer).

This is the last model from this series we had the chance to test and we can honestly say it made a very good impression on us. We find it a strong competitor for X7 Incline Trainer, especially because if costs $400 less ($1,600 total).

As all Incline Trainers, the treadmill focuses on high incline (up to 40%). This is the first model in this series to have also -3 Decline option.

Nordictrack X5i Incline Trainer Specifications

Incline and Decline: 0%-40% Incline and 0% – Minus 3% Decline

To control incline you can either use the Increase/ Decrease buttons or one of the 1-Touch options from -3 to 40 levels. After pressing the desired value, the incline will progressively change according to the selected option.

Note that with every change of the incline, the maximum speed modifies according to your selection:

If the incline is between -3% and -2, 5%, the maximum speed will reach 8mph.

With an incline between -2% and -1, 5%, the maximum speed will be 8,5mph.

When the incline is between -1% and -0, 5%, the maximum speed will reach 9mph.

An incline from 0% to 15% will offer a maximum speed of 10mph.

Between 15, 5% and 25%, the maximum speed will be 8mph and

Between 25, 5% and 40%, the maximum speed will reach 6mph.

Motor: 2.25 HP

Compared to the Nordictrack Incline Trainer X3 Interactive, adding 0,25 HP power makes the motor run quieter and longer than other motors.

Belt: 20’’ X 55’’

This is a belt that will make workout smoother than the common treadmill belt.

The belt is backed by Reflex Cushioning. In comparison with its predecessor mode, Incline Trainer X3 Interactive, this cushion system absorbs the impact in the heel area and provides greater stability, strength and flexibility.

Display Feedback (CrossTrainer Display)

The most powerful feature of the console is that it offers complex display options. You can choose whichever information you need to be aware of during workout and it will be revealed on the display. You can select the display mode by repeatedly pressing the Display button or the Increase/ Decrease buttons next to the Enter button. The available display information regards:

- speed of the walking belt

- elapsed time

- walked or run distance

- incline/ decline level

- approximate number of burned calories

- pace in minutes/ mile or kilometer

- heart rate

The volume is adjustable by pressing the Volume increase/ decrease buttons.

If you wish to resent the console, just press Stop, remove and reinsert the key.

Heart Rate Reader: through handlebars

Just stand on the walking platform and hold the metal contacts on the handrails for almost 10 seconds (or 15, if you want maximum accuracy). But make sure you keep your hands still while doing so.

2.5″ Precision Rollers

The rollers help reduce noise and add up to the smoothness of the treadmill.

Fan: 4 levels

You can turn on/off the fan by pressing the Coolaire Fan Increase/ Decrease buttons until it reaches the desired speed. The fan turns off automatically if the walking belt stops.

Workouts

The Nordictrack X5i Incline Trainer comes with 9 calorie workouts and a random workout generator. These are preset workouts which you can also find on NordicTrack X3 Incline Trainer Interactive. Read this review too for more details.

We will start this review with a very important note. Nordictrack Incline Trainer X3 Interactive is the same model as Nordictrack Incline Trainer X3. You will see 2 different pages on the NordicTrack website, but they are the same model, just named differently.

Nordictrack Incline Trainer X3 Interactive is the lowest model of the Incliner Series from NordicTrack.The first incliner we tested was the NordicTrack X7 Incline Trainer, a model we highly appreciate. Check this review too to know your alternative and its competitive features.

Display options
A great feature about this incline trainer is that it offers a 3D perspective over your workout, which makes the entire experience much more interesting. Also, by pressing repeatedly the Display Mode button, you are allowed to choose whichever mode you find appropriate. The information that will be shown regards:

- Distance (miles or km)

- Approximate number of calories burned/ hour and the approximate number of calories burned

- Speed of the belt (mph or km per hour )

- Incline level

- Elapsed time

- Heart rate (beats per minute)

- Animation of the trail you are running or walking

- Progress of the trail marked with a circle

- On the right side of the console, the number of feet climbed

Workouts:

- 1 Manual Workout

- 9 One Step Calorie Workouts

- Random Trail Workouts (you insert the calories goal and the treadmill selects speed and incline for each segment so you can reach that goal). These are the same 9 One Step Calorie Workouts, but re-arranged in a different way.

- iFIT SD cards (workouts) compatible. The Workouts must be bought separately.

After inserting the key into the console, you may opt for either a 1 Step Calorie Workout, a Random Workout or an iFit Workout (if you bought the SD cards, separately from the control).

In either of the cases, the process regards the same steps. After choosing the desired program, you must start the walking belt. The incline trainer will start moving while your hands hold the handrails.

The incline trainer will slow down when the program is closer to the end.

For the preset workouts incline and speed is automatically controlled by the treadmill.

When you wish to stop the program, use the Stop button, and also the Start button when you wish to restart it.

The sophisticated display will enable a complete view over your performance by offering all the necessary information you need.

It is indicated to measure your heart rate at all time.

If the program gets difficult, there is the fan option that you can easily access.

At the end of the program, remove the key from the console.

An important note, the number of calories is given with approximation and it’s just 50% relevant. As long the console doesn’t allow you to enter personal info like age and weight, don’t count on this number.

Heart Rate: through Contact Handles
This equipment allows you to read your heart rate by using the metal contacts on the handrail. Keep your hands still for 15 seconds and you will have accurate heart rate information.

IPod Compatible Music Port and Sound System included:

You may listen to the music that motivates you by using this IPod compatibility.

You can also plugin your MP3 and CD player.

Two weeks ago we wrote about the iFIT workouts (what are their advantages and weaknesses, how to install the iFIT LIVE module, how iFIT LIVE workouts work and what SD cards recommendations we offer). The article had a big success among our readers so we decided to add a second part which will be of great help.

In this article you will find a list of treadmills that we tested and are compatible with the iFIT Workouts (cards or LIVE Module).

This is an important article because, as we mentioned before, iFIT workouts are a cool feature but if they are not installed on the right the treadmill, the workouts efficiency is almost null. In some cases it is listed just to attract you as buyer, but it will not offer you the satisfaction you’re looking for.

Unfortunately, not all treadmills have the workouts included in the treadmill’s original price. You can see it listed in the specs of the treadmills but some have it listed as compatible (which translates into not included) and some have it listed as included. Even is included, the IFIT LIVE Module comes with a special subscription offer and you must pay attention to this too.

These are the treadmills we tested and reviewed together with the iFIT workouts. Read the entire reviews before making a buy decision. It will save you some money and time.

- FreeMotion T5.6 Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This treadmill costs around $3000. The SD Cards must be bought additional to this price range. But from our point of view you don’t need to buy them as the console already comes with 30 preset workouts.

- NordicTrack Commercial ZS Treadmill Review(SD Cards)

This is a $1000 model. The price is decent and the treadmill performs well. You can buy the cards if you want to, but they are a separate cost from the treadmill price.

- Freemotion T5.2 Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This is a $2500 treadmill with optional iFIT Card slot included. This is a little overpriced treadmill from our point of view, but if you want a reliable treadmill to practice iFIT Workouts this is a good model. Remember you buy the iFIT cards separately.

- Freemotion T7.5 Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This treadmill has the SD card slot so you can buy the extra iFIT SD cards available if interested. It’s worth the investment from our point of view.

- HealthRider H95t Treadmill Review (iFIT Module)

This treadmill is compatible with iFIT LIVE Module which comes as an optional accessory and costs additional to treadmills’ price ($1,000). We recommend going with this purchase if you buy this treadmill.

- HealthRider H75t Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This is a $1,000 treadmill. iFIT SD cards are compatible, but are not included. For what this treadmill can do, we recommend buying the iFIT cards (we say they are not mandatory). The preset workouts selection is pretty good also.

- Freemotion X3 Incline Trainer Review (SD Cards)

This Incline Trainer is similar to NordicTrack Incline Trainer versions. The price is around $1,500 but the cards are optional. It’s a good purchase decision if you want to have them.

- HealthRider R60 SoftStrider Treadmill Review (CDs, VideoCassettes and Website Downloads)

This treadmill is one that comes with the first Optional iFIT workouts system. Its price is $1,500 (way too expensive). We confirm every iFIT system compatible is Optional (no workouts are included).

- Nordictrack T7 SI Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This treadmill is priced $800 (a decent value for the features offered). SD workouts are compatible, not included but they make a valuable asset to your buy because the preset exercises included are not very efficient.

- Nordictrack T9 CI Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This treadmill is $1,400 priced and has the SD cards Compatible (NOT included). It already comes with interesting workouts so it’s not mandatory to add the iFIT workouts. Still, they are helpful for those who want to follow a strict program and need guidance from a professional trainer.

- NordicTrack A2350 PRO Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE Module)

This treadmill costs little, only $700. Nordictrack made it compatible with the iFIT LIVE Module (which is NOT included in the price) so that it can make it more appealing to buyers. Still, it’s a treadmill that can take little and it’s not built to resist long years.

- Nordictrack X5i Incline Trainer Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE Module)

This treadmill is part of the Incline Series (together with X3 and X7 models we reviewed previously). This is the middle model priced at $1,600, but only compatible with the iFIT LIVE Module. It’s not included in the price. This is a machine dedicated to weight loss. Buying this extra module is strongly recommended. See the review for more details.

- Nordictrack Incline Trainer X3 Interactive Review (SD cards)

This treadmill is part of the Incline Series, priced at $1,400. The SD cards are not included, you have to buy them separately. There are some limitations you must be aware of, and we mentioned them in our review. But, in the end, is a good offer for those interested in losing weight and it’s worth investing more money in having the SD cards too.

- ProForm 1050T Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

The SD cards are optional on this treadmill. The price is $900 and it’s an offer worth investing the extra money to have the iFIT workouts.

- ProForm 590T Treadmill Review (SD cards)

This is a $600 treadmill compatible with SD cards, but they are not included. This is a treadmill on which you can only walk this is why the iFIT workouts are not recommended to be added.

- NordicTrack Reflex 4500 Pro Treadmill Review (SD workouts, iFIT LIVE)

This is a $2,000 treadmill and at this price you would expect to have the iFIT LIVE module included, but it doesn’t. Instead you have 26 pre-set iFIT workouts included in the console, which are enough.

- NordicTrack Commercial 1500 Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a very attractive offer because for $1,300 you have the LIVE Module included. This is a treadmill we recommend.

- NordicTrack Elite 9500 PRO Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This is a $1,700 treadmill which has the SD cards optional, not included. The price is high because a TV screen is included, but features are similar to NordicTrack Commercial 1500.

- NordicTrack A2750 Pro Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

The treadmill costs $1,000. It’s a very good price especially because you have already few pre-set iFIT workouts included in the console memory. They are not in cards format, but added directly in the console. The iFIT live module is optional, but for the price paid it’s quite normal. This is a good treadmill.

- NordicTrack A2550 PRO Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $800 treadmill, with basic features. It’s compatible with iFIT LIVE which makes it an attractive option.

- NordicTrack X7 Incline Trainer Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $2,000 treadmill, with the iFIT LIVE module included and ready to support your intensive training at anytime. This is why we strongly recommend it.

- ProForm XT 90 Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $900 treadmill (correct price) but with uncomfortable features. The iFIT LIVE is just compatible, not included.

- ProForm Power 690 Treadmill Review (iFIT LIVE)

This is a $1,300 treadmill, but the module is not included for this price. It’s not a recommended option.

- ProForm 585V Perspective Folding Treadmill Review (SD Cards)

This treadmill is only compatible with SD cards. It’s a very good treadmill with a very pleasant design.

NordicTrac Reflex 4500 PRO is a 2010 model, but it’s based on the features of Apex 4500 Treadmill, with a few technical improvements.

Another treadmill to which Reflex 4500 PRO resembles a lot is the NordicTrack Commercial 1500. The only differences are that Reflex 4500 weighs less, is easier to fold and has the belt backed by a Reflex Cushion system.

Reflex 4500 PRO is a $2.000 treadmill. From our point of view for the price you pay this must be a good treadmill and it should resist to minimum 2 hours of daily intensive running.

But how does it work for real? See in our conclusions.

Grafixx Display:
Click on the Display button to select a display mode. Press it until you get to the display mode you want. Among the details you see displayed are:

– Elapsed time
– Pace in minutes/miles or minutes/km
– Calories (approximate number only)
– Heart Rate
– Competitors animation (Competition Workouts)
– Map of the course (Competition Workouts)

Heart Rate readings: through Contact Handles
Keep your hands on the handles for minimum 15 seconds for the console to display the reading as accurately as possible.

Workouts:
- 1 Manual Workout
- 20 Pre-set Performance workouts and 6 Pre-set Weight Loss workouts. These are iFit workouts.
- Competition workouts, which are iFit workouts as well.
- iFit LIVE Module workouts (this is an optional module, not included in the original price)

When you select a Pre-set workout, you see the name, duration, maximum speed, maximum incline and a profile of the speed settings of the workout. You choose the intensity of the pre-set workout.

All pre-set workouts adjust speed and incline automatically. You can change speed and incline, but this will apply only for that segment of the workout, not for the entire exercise.

Plus, you don’t have an individual user system available on this treadmill so the calories you burn are not calculated based on your own weight. This is why the calories readings should not be considered valid numbers to build your diet on.

Competition workouts allow you to race against 1 or 4 opponents by selecting the speed and incline you desire. Opponents have different endurance level, some are easy to defeat but some require a few weeks of daily practice.

We decided to dedicate this article to iFIT LIVE module workouts and the SD cards after having the opportunity to test them on a few treadmills during our reviews. Read the iFIT Treadmills article too to see which models can support this feature and how they acted when we tested them.

What we can say from the beginning is that our experience with the iFIT workouts, either tested with the LIVE module or as SD Cards, has been great.

iFIT Workouts Advantages:

- iFIT workouts are challenging because they are built following a complete workout recipe, by professional trainers. Each workout pushes you to your next limit which is the key to a successful training program.

- The workouts have voices commands too. This replaces a personal trainer with so little costs.

- Workouts control the speed and incline of each treadmill they are installed on, automatically. So you just have to listen to the commands the trainer gives you and keep running.

iFIT Workouts Disadvantages:

- iFIT LIVE module, although revolutionary, is still in beta version. This is why you may often meet difficulties when using or installing it. In this case you have to contact their Customer Support.

- iFIT SD workouts are bought separately from the treadmill cost. This means extra money for the user but also more benefits

- Although workouts are compatible with many ICON FITNESS treadmills, only some are real powerful and stable to support them all the way. Always read the review of the treadmill which has this feature listed. Although an attractive feature, may not be efficient at all on weak treadmills. With some models it’s listed just as a mechanism to get your money.

iFIT LIVE Module

We had the chance to be present when a friend installed the iFIT LIVE Module on his NordicTrack X7 Incliner. It was then when we understood this was not an easy process and it can really mess with you if you’re not somehow familiar with the Internet and Software products.

In this article we want to share with you what we’ve discovered about this module so far.

What You Need to Install the iFIT LIVE MODULE Correctly:

* A PC with Windows or a Mac
* A wireless router with SSID broadcast enabled and Internet connection.
* A decent Internet connection
* A subscription on iFIT.com
* A treadmill produced by ICON Health & Fitness compatible with the iFIT LIVE Module

Tips we Recommend when Intalling the iFIT LIVE Module.

* After you connect the iFIT Module to the PC with the USB cable go to the web address they recommend.

* Register your profile at iFIT website and you will download workouts to match your personal details. This is important to reach your goals correctly.

* While you have the USB cable connected you must install the software as well. When you get the message the installation is complete, you can insert the module in the Treadmill console and remove the USB cable.

* When you insert the iFIT Module in the console you must enable the WiFi connection and make sure the module is connected to the Internet Wireless.

* Turn on the treadmill and you will get the message Updates are required. Don’t ignore that message or you’ll be sorry later. Have patience and allow the iFIT Module software to update, even if it takes some hours. During this process, don’t remove the module and go have a coffee with friends.

* This is BETA software, meaning updates are done all the time. This is neither the final nor the perfect product. Still, it’s wonderful to use once you install it.

iFIT LIVE Workouts:

Jillian Michaels and her trainers send you the workouts in your iFIT account which you must follow according to their schedule. The iFIT module downloads the workouts in the treadmill console through the WiFi internet connection. Speed and Incline are automatically controlled during the workout. All you need to do is follow the instructions the trainer gives you verbally.

The advantage is you can monitor your progress directly in your iFIT account when you login from your PC.

If you have an iPhone (but it’s not mandatory) you can simply send your meals info to your account so the trainers can customize your workouts accordingly. They send you workouts daily.

Google Maps is the feature we love the most. NordicTrack X7 Incline Trainer has this feature enabled. This feature allows you to run on your favorite routes, like the Boston Marathon for example. The options are unlimited as you can download thousands of routes in the treadmill console. The treadmill automatically changes the incline of the treadmill (up and down) to simulate terrain.
